Who wins?? 1963 Doug Jones [188lbs], who troubled Ali in his 18th pro fight VS 1986 James Tillis [208lbs] who troubled Tyson in his pro 20th fight. These lowly journeymen sure were competitive with teh 2 Green Greats. BUT Ali did only have 87 Rounds of experience when he did fight Doug Jones, And Tyson did only have 37 Rounds of experience when he did fight James Tillis, so Both were green as grass. 1963 Douglas Jones @188lbs This content is protected http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRh9m-rrvIk [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja-wPS37bhg[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luu5EUJQ6L0[/ame] 1986 James Tillis @208lbs This content is protected http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsfcZCFIs1I
Doug Jones was a very good offensive fighter, the problem is he had little defense and was under-sized at HW, which made him less effective at that weight. Against Tillis, he would be fighting an inferior version of the Cassius Clay he fought, so I'd probably pick him to win. Tillis did a fine job of containing Tyson that night so it'd be close though. Some indication about how the fight would turn out: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Esbahf64ytg[/ame]
Was James Tillis in top shape when he lost to Marvis Frazier?? I heard Tillis was commonly a lazy cowboy in training for fights, so he would get gassed early.
He weighed 210 pounds, which was a decent weight for him, although he was a natural 200 lber. Tillis gave a better effort than in some fights he lost but Marvis's pressure and workrate were too much for him to handle. He had it easier against Tyson's intense but more methodical pressure. With Tyson you could get some breaks, against Frazier you had none.
I just watched Ali-Jones for the first time, & i think Jones deserved the decision, so i favour him to decision Tillis. Kally's scorecard for Ali-Jones '63 Round 1: Jones Round 2: Ali Round 3: Ali Round 4: Jones Round 5: Jones Round 6: Jones Round 7: Jones Round 8: Jones Round 9: Ali Round 10: Ali Total: 6-4 Doug Jones
Jones would probably pull off a majority decsion, after 1983, James wasn't a legit contender, just a journeyman/opponent.
