Some folks will say it was only an exhibition match but if Doug Jones wanted a rematch Occam's Razor suggests he would have tried to show a lot more.

Anybody who thinks Ali wrote his own "bio" and said that he stopped moving against Foreman because GF was cutting the ring effectively, and he had to take 2 steps for Foreman's one, should look at this video. Ali knew that he would have to move more than the person who was trying to cut the ring. Ali was probably taking 10-15 steps for every step Doug Jones made in the first round of this video. Any fighter knows that if he is going to move around and the other fighter is going to "cut" the ring, he will be taking a lot more steps than the guy who is cutting the ring.

Ali slowed in the second round of this exhibition, and was fighting off of the ropes about 1 minute into the round. This video should solve the "mystery" about why Ali went to the ropes at times in Zaire. He was only 24 years old in this video and he slowed down and paced himself in the 2nd round after a lot of movement in the 1st.
