    Chuvalo could stay close because Ali wanted it that way. Muhammad was in some way a very arrogant dude (but he had the right to be!) and showed is real speed against Chuvalo only from time to time, not during the whole fight. He even let George punch his kidneys and holding him, yelling at him while Chuvalo was punching.

    When you really want to see Ali's best footspeed watch the first round vs Patterson I, he was only defending there without a single punch:

    I think this would be too fast for Frazier too, at least to land many shots.
