1967 Muhammad Ali vs. 2007 Wladimir Klitschko

Ali by points, but i would'nt rule out a knockout. In my opinion, other than power and physical built Ali has all of the advantages.

 

I love Tyson, but he beat a faded version of Holmes - it was impressive how he carried it out, but is Tyson great simply because he beat some faded ATG? Castillo, yeah maybe - I don't even know what the categories are for being inducted into HOF. Is it a panel of nuthugging US romaticist journalists - kind of like the same idiots who make rings ranking lists? Or are there definitive guidelines to be inducted?

My point was - just because you are unlucky and don't have any potential HOF'ers in your division, then you aren't great? Klitschko could be ATG, but unable to prove it.

 

I hear that, I will always watch Wlad fight till he retires, I live to see Wlad get knocked out again, he is everything I dislike in a fighter, and wont be in peace until he retires.:yep

Yea... in about 140 amateur fights, and 53 pro fights, Wlad has been stopped 3 times. That's really a guy who seems like he can be knocked out at any minute. Especially considering that the only fight even remotely having to do with his opponent simply stoking him out with punches was Sanders. It happens, and Wlad grew from it. The man is in his prime right now and hasn't lost in 4 years. I think that maybe it is time to stop living in the past.

Those who keep saying that he lacks mental toughness, and don't know what to do when the other guy is punching... I think that you have failed to watch him over the last couple years. His defense is great now, and he uses great footwork, tactical clinching, and controls the space between him and his opponent... just like an elite fighter is supposed to. Acting like Wlad needs to stand and go toe to toe with someone, just because he is too good for them them get at him when he boxes is just nonsense. Why on earth does any boxer with that kind of technical skill have to fight like that? People need to fight like that, when they can't win by controling the fight with boxing skill. This isn't fighting, it's boxing. Besides that, Wlad does go toe to toe with his opponents. He is actually the one who normally stalks them around the ring in the first place. There is a difference between standing your ground, and charging in like an amateur.

What's funny is that the same guy who is saying that Wlad will never stand and trade with his opponents, is the same guy who is up Sam Peter's ass on this forum. I guess he forgets how Wlad stood and traded left hooks with Sam Peter in the 12th round, put Peter on ***** street, and then Peter was holding onto Wlad for dear life when Wlad came in to finish him. Nothing like being a hypocrite.

 

Holmes was still pretty good at that time, like I said, he beat Ray Mercer that gave guys like Lewis and Holyfields fits in there respective primes, as well as knocking out Morrison brutally. All I'm saying is that Wlad is not as good as some make him out to be, I never seen a guy that's considered by some to be an elite, fall apart so fast after getting hit with a decent punch, the man lacks toughness, and is mentally weak at the top level.

 

Keep repeating that to yourself... maybe one day you will convince yourself that it's true.

 

Ali would have been physically overwhelmed......but I think that 1967 Ali had the moxy and the skills to avoid Wlads big shots and land enough to win a decision.

Wlad may not win, but he's fare better than most all of the Ali fans believe becausr Wlad has trouble with good pressure agressors, and Ali didn't do that much :think

 

Widdow, who had too hold and clinch 97 times during that fight, who hit the canvas 3 times, and who had two panic attacks during that fight? You guessed it, Wlad. He has been knocked down 11 times, mostly by journeymen, and was knocked out 3 times, two times by journeymen and one time by a club fighter, who wouldnt be good enough to be in Joe Louis' bum of the month club, in Purrity.

Say what you want Widdow, but the stats dont lie, Wlad is scared shitless of getting hit and when he does he stumbles around the ring like a drunken bum, and clinches, and falls numerous times. Haye is partially right when he says Wlads a disgrace, the fight against Iggy sure was, and the fans let him hear it afterwards.

 

All that and Wlad still dominated Peter 10 out of 12 rounds? You aren't saying much for Sam Peter. 3 knockdowns, 2 panic attacks, a glass jaw, and no mental toughness... yet Peter couldn't finish him off? Peter must be the worst finisher in the history of the heavyweight division. Thanks for clearing that up.

 

Peter was very green at 25 yearsold, he smothered his punches when he had Wlad hurt, and Wlads excessive clinching helped him survive that fight, which he only won by 3 points on all three of the judges scorecards, hardly dominate performance on his end.

I give Wlad a ton of credit in this fight, and he deserved the win in the end, a good, tough, hard win for him. However Peter was very young and inexperience, and it showed, thats why I would love to see them do it again.

 

Oh yeah... you give Wlad tons of credit for that fight. Just read your posts.:-( Wlad dominated 10 of 12 rounds... that is a very dominant peformance. Just because the ref blew a couple of calls in the 5th round, doesn't make the fight any closer. Even with two bogus knockdowns, a knockdown in the 10th, and all of the other nonsense that you talk about... Wlad dominated him 10 of 12 rounds. There wouldn't have been so much clinching if Sam Peter would have been able to throw his hands from anywhere other than with his chest against Wlad's.

What will you say when Wlad beats Peter again? What will be the excuse this time?

 

Both Lewis & Wlad beat Ali.
