how good was smokin joe , fought one eyed most of his career against legendary fighters. imagine the thiller in manilla rds 11-14 with frazier having 2 good eyes , different ending i think.

For a long time,I've rated Joe as my number 5 heavyweight of all time. 1969-71 was peak Frazier, imo.

Ali would still have won that fight. Fair play to Frazier's performance though.

The man was exceptional .. the definition of a warrior ... hard to fathom that he fought the way he did against such terrific fighters blind in one eye ... one of my all time favorites ..

I personally don't believe he could have been outpointed at his peak - he had to be knocked out to be beaten.

Joe Frazier in his prime .... Dempsey, Louis, Foreman, Liston, maybe Ali, maybe Lennox Lewis, maybe Marciano, ...... might beat him.
    Not many.

    Interesting point.

I was thinking of doing a thread about fighters who couldn't be out pointed at their best and had to be knocked out but the only two fighters I could come up that fit this bill were Frazier and a prime Jeff Fenech.

So for fear of a flop thread due to lack of suitable fighters I didn't go with it. Still it speaks volumes about the qualities of Frazier and Fenech that no other fighters readily spring to mind.

It's believed that Frazier was a virtual cripple by his mid 20's.Don't forget(doesn't get mentioned enough) how he kept getting up against Foreman, either - nobody has ever gotten up from a few knockdowns, afterall.

That '73 Frazier against Foreman was not a motivated '69 Frazier at all.
Joe was into his music and, without a doubt, completely underestimated
George as a fighter, as well as, George's power. The '76 Frazier had been through all the wars by then and was not even close to being in his best shape. He was over 224 pounds for that one.

whats your beef with Frazier then, Gayyourowngay?

I've never come across a Frazier-hater before, i dont understand it. He's one of the few fighters percieved and rated, for exactly what he is/was/did, imo

You do know that was for the Ettienne-fight, right?

It wasn't an excuse, Tyson was just repeating what the doctor told him...

"...he said, believe it or not, your broke is broken, slightly..."

:lol:Yeah, a few people have been doing that lately when discussing bad excuses. They're knowledgable to know damn well that Tyson actually won that fight KO round 1. They'd just rather pull it out of context and mention it, rather than mention Duran needing a poo, or having cramp, or not training etc..
