Been working on a Fight of the year project for quite a while now. My list ranges from 1970-today. But my knowledge of 1970s boxing is somewhat limited.

You can easily find info on most 70s fights, but getting a feel of the top most significant, competitive, epic fights is a lot harder.

I'm asking for people to post their suggestions for FOTY each year from the 70s. Especially if you feel it's a superior fight to the ones RING magazine chose.

The three years I'm most uncertain about are 1972, 1977, & maybe 1979.

Great list. How do feel our two lists compare. Meaning have you seen all the fights listed between these 2 lists (excluding Taylor/Anya)? Any years that are toss ups for you?

The only one from your list i haven't seen, aside from Taylor-Anaya, is Albarado- Wajima. The biggest tossups for me are probably 77 and 74.

73s fight of the year should have been Valdez-Briscoe 1. How Foreman-Frazier got it is beyond me.

Don't know of anyone's heard of this fight but I literally just stumbled upon it.
hong soo-whan vs hector carrasquilla 1977.

Idk if it FOTY material or not. But the Korean fighter soo-whan goes down 4 x's in the 2nd..and rallies back to KO the champion in the 3rd. Pretty epic. It's on YouTube.

    74 is probably Ali-Foreman, and I'd say Young-Foreman for 77

OK! I realized what I'm really looking for...my hope was to create a running list of the Fight of the year contenders. What are the known and recognized amazing fights each year in 1970.

Should I open a new thread asking for the top 20-25 fights in that decade? Or does anyone on here have a pretty strong knowledge of 70s boxing?

Agrre - 1974 belongs to Ali. But otherwise I agree.
