I have decided to do a 1970's Heavyweight tournament. I have included 32 of the better fighters who did not gain general recognition as Heavyweight Champion, so no Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Spinks and Holmes.

For the sake of not clogging up the board, and making it a bit faster, I will be using multiple fights in a thread, with multiple options for people to vote. I will not vote, other than to break a tie. The draw was done at random, and with no one seeded, and all contests are assumed to be over 15 rounds.

Just one final thing, it is a 70's tournament, thus try and analyse the fighters at their 70s peak, even if they peaked in their career before or after the decade.

Have to admit I haven't kept to the '70 criteria but Norton and Lyle would be interesting. Bonavena to take Mac's best shot, Quarry to hear the count this time(!)-never bought into that excuse-peak Young to befuddle Dokes in a pick 'em.

These would all be interesting fights. Lyle-Norton is particularly hard to call and would a great war. Bonavena-Foster would be a tough war of attrition. A prime Young would have to be on top form to beat the quick Dokes. And Quarry-Chuvalo would be a great scrap, as you'd expect from those two.

Can't believe 10 out of 14 pick Lyle to beat Norton, Ron only beat b level fighters or washed up a level guys. Look what Young, Bugner, Quarry did to him. I accept styles make fights but Norton wasn't blown away by every good puncher he met.
