Joe Frazier lasted 5 rounds in the rematch with George Foreman. He did this by using better head movement, countering and blocking shots with his gloves. But Fraizer wasn't as dynamic, quick nor did he have the work rate he had in 1971 and prior. With those adjustments and had Frazier been as he was in 71, I think he'd have given Foreman a much more competitive fight. And if Frazier made it to round 5 or better, he could've possibly stopped Foreman late. This is a possibility but I don't know. What do you all think? This content is protected
No chance. Frazier lasted longer in fight two for two reasons: 1. Foreman was fighting a toned down more relaxed style. He was not going all out for the first round KO as he did prior to fighting and losing to Ali in 74. 2. Frazier stayed away from Foreman. He purposefully did his best not to engage George At least not early on. Bottom line it would have been only a matter of time. Could have been round one. Could have been round five. The only question would be when the KO would occur. With an aggressive out for the early KO style of prime Foreman more likely early....within three rounds.
No way, some fighters are just all wrong for you and George was all wrong for Joe. That in no way disparages the great Joe Frazier, he's a top 10 all time heavy. Norton was another example, a guy who Ali just couldn't decipher, I really don't think Ali ever beat him.
Fraziers chin wouldnt hold up against most power punchers at any year. Which is why they were smart not to go against them at that time when he could. not that there were many 220 pound power punchers in the 70's.
Frazier unfortunately would be stopped just the same, maybe he gets in to the sixth round. But the end result is the same.
I believe it's fairly obvious Frazier wins. He'd most definitely make it into the 6th round. He'd be throwing more punches, (specifically rights), wouldn't tire at all, he'd be a lot faster, and skinnier. Frazier frankly had no business being in the ring at that point. Something overlooked is the fact that since the Rumble, he was the only opponent of Foreman who'd answered the 5th without yet having been knocked down.
