Can't believe someone picks Weaver lasting longer than Frazier vs Foreman.

Frazier had better chin and was overall better boxer.

Dude,it is what i said, this guy is a horrible horrible troll,he does not care about foreman so he will say that any mediocre fighter could be competitive with him under the pretext "foreman could get gassed". Absurd ,foreman only gassed against ali under a horrible clime,he lasted 10 rounds with the experienced Peralta when george was pretty green and won .the cliche "foreman gassed early and his stamina was very bad" is a false myth, the only 2 guys that were capable to survive foreman and tire him were very smart stylists and super durable guys, weaver could not be more more far from this description. Also ali was the one who did all the job, foreman was not the same guy mentally post ali, young would have a hell with the norton version of george,in 1977 his trainer changed his style from a slugger to boxer-puncher,it was horrible for him,a more agresive foreman would have stopped young early

It is a bull**** mate ,he was protected ,he team of holmes had the oportunity to face foreman and they did not want,(with real motives), at that time he was not ready for lyle, young, shavers, norton or foreman .
(Lyle and him were sparring partners and ron was a hell for him stylistically, holmes did not like his right hand )

Holmes wasn't protected, he was simply brought through the ranks perfectly. It's a fine example of how a fighter should be managed. Look at where it took him.

Why would 76 Holmes want to face Foreman? Foreman fought mostly stiffs for MANY fights before a sudden leap in class.

You said yourself he was not ready. You call it protected, i call it good management.

Holmes would have been too good for Lyle peak for peak, Young would have been awkward tho. Holmes - Foreman peak, well that's a thread on it's own. I might make it on the weekend, regardless of it having been made before.

I dont disagree with all this,i am saying that he was protected early(well done) ,he was green,i agree that holmes in his peak probably beats lyle ( not without problems cause stylistical motives) but 76 holmes would not beat 76 lyle

I was scrolling thru looking if someone had mentioned this exact fact. Weaver was the slowest starting good heavyweight of his era i'd say, and Foreman one of the most intense. Weaver wouldn't make it to round 3 against the likes of Tyson and Foreman imo.

He wasn't even sweating when he entered the ring against Dokes, idiocy! Dokes was sweating heavily and bouncing around staying warm while Weaver just stood there. Weaver made no such mistake in their second bout, coming in well lathered and staying warm.

I wouldn't automatically say 76 Holmes could not defeat 76 Lyle. Lyle was absolutely schooled by Jimmy Young at the time, one judge had Young winning 11-12 rounds. Holmes was only 4 fights short ot taking on Shavers and Norton. He basically shut out Shavers over 12.

    Be a good match.

Anyway larry holmes even in his Prime never was known for facing the most risked names. No pinky thomas no page,no Tate,no rematch with spoon or norton, but he gave chance to evangelista, lorenzo zanon, leroy jones,le doux, lucien Rodriguez, tex cobb

YOUNG and holmes were not even close in style, holmes had a big mistake that was trading blows with punchers .1976 holmes did not have the mind ready to recover after a bomb from lyle

Have a good look at Holmes - Shavers, the first fight. Holmes had 4 fights since 76. Holmes whipped around the ring and Shavers didn't touch him.

What examples would you put forward of Holmes trading with punchers? He 100% boxed ****ey and was caught with a haymaker against Shavers in the second tussle. He really didn't fight many "punchers".

When he got catched hard he got mad and traded,he did with weaver, with spoon, snipes, smith, berbick etc were punchers or not he got mad when anyone did hit him with a big shot and lost the head and his plan,so against a big puncher it is a big mistake.holmes brawled much more than young.Holmes brawled too much with spoon, stupid fight

    Lyle
    Patterson
    Page

    Norton

It's interesting that the early 80s were thought of as a lull for heavyweights.
