1973 George Foreman vs 1967 Jimmy Ellis, 15 Rounds. Could Jimmy outpoint George like Jimmy Young would do 4 years later in San Juan, Puerto Rico? Would Foreman go on the attack and end this one early?
I don't think so. Young's craftiness and strategy was brilliant. He capitalized on George's broken confidence from the Ali fight. I don't like triangle theories... BUT, Foreman might've layed out Ellis quicker than Smokin Joe.
Based on the law of styles, Ellis would last longer than either Frazier or Norton did against Foreman. I think he would pose a threat 2 Foreman. 1967 Ellis was pretty damn good, but not good enough to beat peak Foreman. Peak Ellis I think would push Foreman to the limit. Watch Ellis's fights w/ Bonavena, Quarry, and Martin. He's very tricky, hard to hit, he's fast, mobile, and he's aggressive. All things that Frazier and Norton were not in the two rounds they each went w/ Foreman. However, peak Ellis is a pretty good fighter. Peak Foreman is a whole 'nother thing. I do give Ellis a small chance myself, but I have Foreman knocking out an exhausted Ellis at no later than-yes-8.
Got a feeling this one would be over.. Fast! I'm thinking three round tops before Foreman s sledgehammer drops Ellis for the count.
