Probably been done before but what the hell, that's just the nature of forums like this..

So the young unbeaten George Foreman from the Ali title fight in 1974 against the old wiser Foreman that challenged Holyfield 17 years later in 1991.Who would have won had if by the miracle of forum fantasy matchups, had those 2 versions fought each other?

Believe it or not im going with 91 Foreman by late stoppage. foreman never had 1 punch KO snap he pounded opponents down even if he did it much more quickly and violently in his first career so Young Foreman doesnt have a real chance at a 1 punch KO. Old Foreman paced himself better was more defensively responsible(even if he still wasnt a defensive wizard) and stepped forward with straight punches, had a very stiff jab. Young foreman would have came forward pawing and would have immediately tasted old foremans jab he would have probably responded with a wild swing which old foreman steps inside of with the archie moore guard and shoves young foreman back and start hitting him with straight rights. Young foreman would definitely fight back and respond with his wild swings but Old foreman beats him down brutally because young foreman had no defense against a man with similar reach and who pushed him back and moved forward.

I suggested something more or less the same this on another forum years ago, basically that old foreman would grit it out, stay calm but marching forward against the younger version, and at some point old George would be catching young version. Till eventually older George kd young George and stops him.

Young George may not have been a speedster by any means but he was way faster than his older incarnation. Gradually the youngster's punches start getting through old George's guard and the brave old man gets stopped on his feet around the eighth or ninth.

Young Foreman because his speed, dynamicism, aggressiveness, and power.

Speaks to Foremsn as a fighter that this is actually a good question.

Well, of course old Foreman would know what young Foreman would do in certain situations. He would be able to anticipate young Foremans reactions to easily.

.....while Young george didnt have a guard at all. At.....All.
He would be eating old george's jab and straight punches the entire time, he would start heistating after 2-3 rounds.
Old george would have no problem whatsoever landing on young george. Old george would without a doubt push young george back on his heels and outland young george 2:1 at the very least.
I knew people would pick young george but it sill baffles me. If young george at least had old george's defense ok then but he doesnt. He pawed and pushed his opponents around with his physical presence and led with power shots. Old george would DOMINATE young george in my opinion.

Do people feel uncomfortable picking Old George because it might suggest to them that they could be inadvertently saying that Holyfield actually beat a better version of Foreman than Ali did in what was arguably regarded as been Ali's finest career victory?

I would not be shocked if the 1991 version of Foreman won, but surely the 1974 Foreman would be the favorite being faster and more aggressive and may even hit harder. I certainly feel the young Foreman would have done much better against the likes of Morrison and Holyfield. I just really rate the chin of Foreman in 1991. I would pick 1974 Foreman, but if he gassed it would be no surprise.

Good post. I think it has a lot to do with how Young George fought in 1974 against Ali is what skews peoples opinion about him. Let's not forget Young George still had quite the skill set, the very best at cutting the ring off!

I give Old George a chance, but he would have to lay on the ropes and take punishment until Young George gassed out.

Prime Foreman was not slow. Ali was surprised how fast George was in the ring.

    Prime Foreman beats old Foreman.

1991 Foreman would never had been nearly knocked out in rnd one by Lyle.

1991 foreman wouldnt have been out slugged by Lyle at any point or saved by the bell. Yes a year later 1975...but whos kidding who?

1991 Foreman took 15 unanswered blows from Holyfield.

1991 Foreman took multiple tommy morrison left hooks ( who hit 3x that of Frazier)We know this bc he fought Tommy after 1991.

    1991 Foreman had a better /powerful jab

1991 foreman had better stamina bc he was more relaxed

1991 foreman didnt need much speed he made up with better set up punching ( his jab wasnt slow) how do you think he caught fast guys like Quawi / Holyfield/ Moorer/ Morrison..etc?

1991 Foreman would not have lost to Jimmy young.

1991 Foreman had Angelo Dundee as a second eye in the ring.

1991 was harder to push back and take the punches from.

1991 foreman fought bigger more technical fighters than he did in the 70's.

1991 Foreman had deceptively ring cutting abilities where he used less movement and chasing.

1991 Foreman had better defense.( really 70's Foreman had poor defense if he couldnt put his opponents away or they punched back. he was opened to counter punching bc he had wild wide power shots) He shortened his punches up a bit.

1991 Foreman had a great chin (possibly the best)...look at the punchers Cooney/ Morrison/Stewart/ Holyfield/ Briggs/ Moorer /cooper/ and compare them to the ones of the 70's.( Ron Lyle was 220 pounds his biggest puncher he fought in the 1970's)

Foreman 1974 vs Foreman 1991...well where would you get the idea bc Ali ( non power puncher) would show that he would defeat himself with the above information i provided? He would simply be to small/wild and run out of breath rather quickly if he fought himself from 1991. not to mention he was mentally weaker and relied on his size?

He would be outweighed by nearly 30 pounds....he would be out witted...out bullied and out muscled in general. He would get clobbered by a much heavier handed guy than Lyle.....

You would NEED to show who 1974 foreman defeated who could punch because this IS the match up we are doing....

He would simply grind himself down and do little work bc all he did was come forward. Its nothing more than a big truck vs a bigger one. Both relied on physically imposing their strength first to defeat guys.

Foreman of 1991 knocks out Foreman of 1974 by round 4 .

"I was the total package in the 90's" His twitter response to me!

AFTER i had showed him why he hit harder than Shavers...something HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW without the referancing points i GAVE him then stating i was right...HaHA

Just reminding everyone some boxers really dont look at EVERYTHING !

Gala once again you have no idea what you are writing about.

I will just pick one of your idiotic responses.

Prime Foremans jab was termed "the best since Joe Louis". It was quick, hard and he threw it in bunches.

The main reason George was able to come back as he did was the watered down hwt boxing scene then as now. Lots of champions, lots of challengers equals many potential paths for potential success.

George's comeback to rewin the worlds hwt championship as he did was remarkable and lofted him into ATG status. However past 40 Foreman was not the human force of nature as was prime Foreman. Not close.

I',m going with the 91 Foreman. He was bigger, smarter, more durable, and had better stamina than when he was younger.
