I'm finding it pretty funny to listen to how Howard Davis would beat Whitaker as a pro. I don't even think he'd beat him as an am, but maybe, but as a pro... nah.
I'd pick Davis (1976 Olympics Val Barker Trophy winner, over SRL and the Spinks brothers) over Whitaker as an amateur, but definitely not as a pro.
I agree Davis isn't beating Whitaker in the pros. That poster jumped the shark there. I do pick Davis in the amateurs. He'd use his height and reach to stay outside and peck away. Whitaker wouldn't reach him much.
Howard Davis could beat Pernell as a pro, and I stand by that. Pernell ain't never faced a cat like that before, and by the time he figured Howard out, too late. And Tyrell Biggs would definitely beat John Tate, who was a good, but not spectactular amateur.
Max Baer COULD beat Joe Louis.... Tyson could beat Holyfield... Nobody said it was impossible for Davis to win. You're making the claim that he's likely to win, and that is a whole other argument, and frankly one with little foundation. There is nothing about Davis in the pros that suggests he was likely to beat Pea, literally nothing.
The man fought and beat quality competition. Granted, he got knocked down a lot, and he had no business losing to Watt, but he would beat Pernell, probably a close fight, but it could get done.
