I wouldn’t recommend anybody, “look” for his tricks, personally. It’s best to storm in hard & overwhelm a fighter like Walcott, rather than try figuring him out.

Leon didn't have the punching power to get rid of Walcott quickly

No, & I’m not suggesting a specific tactic for this fight, to be clearer. Just a general thought…if you went in hard & fast (allowing for the fact you’re able to) I think you’re in better standing than trying to work out his manoeuvres & sleights of hand & body.

    Spinks could do neither, though.

Pay attention to how Rocky was dropped by Walcott and how he later caught Walcott again. Marciano was looking the whole duration between the two. There is a cue Rocco jumped on. It isn't exactly what I attempted describing above but it is similar and I thought you dudes would find it interesting given Marciano doesn't look like he's looking for anything but to take a man's head. And I guess that's exactly what it is, but there was thought and planning to it.

Walcott showed me enough to tell me he’d have won that fight had he been in his prime.

That's interesting. There is logic to the proposed method and that is essentially what Louis did in the very first round he fought against Walcott. Came out swinging, threw a hook and then a cross, the cross landing with thudding impact on Walcott's head. Louis trapped Walcott against the ropes and moved in to finish, and then Walcott fired back like a cornered animal and put Louis on the floor, it became apparent then it was going to be a very long night.

Would it be with 1939 Louis, though?

I think Walcott had the style to always at least give Louis problems though Louis would eventually knock him out, somewhere between the 8th and the 12th round.
It's just the case of Walcott having the mix of durability, quickness, stamina and experience to give pretty much anybody problems.

Certainly plausible. What I meant though - to clarify - was in 1939 Louis got Walcott into trouble in round one would Walcott have escaped? Maybe not.

Maybe he'd finish him or knock him down but Walcott would recover, similar to Pastor in the rematch.
