It's what the Pommies call being "civilized". But actually, some of this may have been triggered by a comment supposedly made by Minter to the effect that no black man would ever take his title. The prevailing sentiment at that time may have spurred the naughtiness. Today in the more tolerant climate that exists in the UK it is not likely that we would see such an unhappy incident again.

 

My buddy in Ft Worth Tx Donald Curry had the same treatment when he legitimately Ko'd Colin Jones in the 4th I think it was. They threw beer bottles at him. One hit his trainer Paul Reyes who was shielding Don. I was at that fight & was embarrassed to be a Brit. Later when I got to know Don better he used to tease me saying he knew it was me throwing bottles he recognized my accent LOL

 

As I say, that was a riposte to Halger purportedly saying: 'I don't touch white flesh' when Minter went to shake his hand.

 

It's something I read a while ago when digging into the incident - I believe it was in a boxing publication, but this was a little while ago.

 

I'd say Judah-Mayweather brawl was up there but it was rather funny afterwards. Mainly because of Lennox Lewis on commentary laughing it all off.
