very true. I remember seeing a well shop worn, over weight late 30 early 40 something Duran sparring with a young Nigel Benn and his defence and foot movement was unreal.
The other thing Duran does amazingly well is punctuate and disrupt his opponents rhythym on the inside with jabs. He did this to Ray to great effect in the first fight. This would really offset Pacquiao when he's punching in combination and constantly make him reset. I think it would be a helluva fight, but not a good one for Manny's style IMO.
That was an off night in a 10 rd non-title match, the only fight Duran lost (on points at age 21) in over 70 fights & he KO`d Dejesus twice afterwards.... anyway, we are talking about the Duran that beat Leonard vs Pacman at 147, simply no contest, none at all, not even close.
Roberto Duran is my favorite fighter of all time. He is my boxing idol. But, at 147 Pacquiao beat him...at lightweight i would go with Duran.
Have you actually seen your favourite fighter of all time at his 147 lb best vs Palomino or Leonard ? It doesnt seem like you have !
Duran at 147 is not easy to hit even Leonard with his speed and offense never hit Duran Cleanly, Duran slips punches while moving in and combines offense with defense as he slips punches he is coming in with hooks and counters getting inside where he is a master in-fighter. Duran knows how to roll with the punches something no one does anymore, Duran also has experience in his corner with a combined what almost 150 yrs of boxing experiene Ray Arcel and Brown....Arcel worked with Benny Leonard......Duran also has 1 punch KO power and a tough chin .....I see Duran getting inside Manny and makeing it a brawl he nullified leonards speed by smothering him, Manny is a little smaller Than Duran and well how will Manny keep him off.......Duran at 135 is even better and every bit of his gifts are magnafied. Tough challenge but I see Duran equal to the task and winning decisions at both weights. I rate Margarito as a Pipino Cuevas with less punching power check out what Duran did to him although at 154 he is in my estimation comparable to Margo a harder puncher but not as good of a chin also a little better boxer than Margo. Imagine What a Duran who beat Leanord looks like against the Margarito Pac beat?
So that WAS Duran! I knew it! It looked like he has lost some weight and letting the hair grow. A legend like that in the ring SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED when they accompany any fighter into the ring. How disrespectful is that?:bart Fighters like him would of got a standing ovation and gets the crowd even more pumped when they see a legend in attendance. Jerry Jones do your homework.
yip that was him. A couple of times when Pacquiao landed he was talking to people around him about what was going on, even started filming the fight. I don't know if he was introduced or not live in the stadium, certainly wasn't on the tv broadcast that I watched, but the UK commentator did mention and he was shown on UK tv, in the corner before an after the Cordoba-Rigondeaux fight.
Of course ive seen all his fights, well the televised ones. Duran was the best to me, but at welterweight it would be crazy to think that Manny wouldnt give him problems, not that he wasnt great at welterweigh. He was.. I think it would be a close competitive fight, but I would slightly favor Manny based on his workrate. Duran also had a great workrate, but at 147 he was more inconsistant.
What the hell does inconsistency have to do with anything ? We are talking about the best versions of both guys at 147 lbs vs each other in a h2h fight.... & amazingly you picked Pacquiao to win that fight & stated that Duran is your fav fighter ever.... thats some crazy **** mate !
