1981: Ray Leonard vs Thomas Hearns, Who Would You Have Bet On?

    The year was 1981. People were mortgaging their homes, betting on Thomas Hearns. I don't know what the betting lines were but its safe to say the average guy was looking at Thomas's glossy record of 32-0 (30).

    Of course, hindsight is 20/20. If you were betting money back then, who would you have put money on?

    For me, I'd have put my money on Hearns on UD. I'd figure that Ray was as slick as Benitez, but just couldn't get past the massive reach of Hearns.

    At the time I thought Tommy would win via UD or late TKO.

    It would have been a close call based on skill but I would have said Leonard due to his experience at the top level. Two fight with Duran and 15 rounds with Benitez would have been invaluable.

    Even though I say that now I would still have been ****in STUNNED to see Tommy outbox Leonard with ease for long periods.

    That's the year I was born but I would have picked Hearns by KO.

    Been a while since I seen the fight but he was boxing Leonard brilliantly in the first half of the fight.

    bet it was a tough call at the time, i was only 4 so i don't know. leonard was my favourite fighter so i would have probably have backed him though i would have been worried about hearns' reach. does anyone know who was the betting favourite in that fight?
