Close fight. This could be similar to the Williams fight, where Larry's typical approach wouldn't work as Pinky gets the better of the early jab exchanges and Holmes rallies by going inside more- and even to the body to claw back the deficit in the final 3rd. It's close but I'd have to pick a serial winner ahead of a hot & cold coke head. Larry by close UD.
As much as anyone else, I guess. But Pinklon never showed he could go 15 or could finish strong in those late rounds. Thomas was usually totally exhausted the few times he even went 12. That's when Larry would often turn it up.
In '84, Larry's there to be beaten. Thomas was perhaps more apt to earn the win than any other Heavyweight, at that point in time. Too close to call. But, depending on the price on offer, a value-for-money bet on Thomas could be worth a punt.
@Saintpat is too humble at least I haven’t seen him bring it up besides one? Or two? occasions - anyway I digress, he owns singularly one of the coolest brags on this forum because he actually sparred Thomas - just thought I’d add “something” because it’s all pretty much covered here.
It could have been Pinklon s perfect time to win the lineal title. Larry was slipping and Thomas could have taken advantage.
