i remember ko magaizine having them on the cover just after the olympics. great talented squad , although you have to remember this was a boycotted olympics and huge parts of the world never took part. but a truely talented bunch of boxers. there were 5 boxers on the cover taylor whittaker breland holyfield biggs when you think that there were gold meddalists left out and holyfield included, in hindsight whoever picked the photo op was a good forcaster of talent. mind you he ****ed up with biggs.
Also keep in mind that the Communist countries boycotted the '84 Olympics in Los Angeles because the Americans had done the same in Moscow '80. While the overall pro talent was undeniable, one can only wonder how these fighters would have fared in an Olympic tournament with the best of the best.
didn't know that Hill was there ....The closest anyone came to describing Whitaker's style was Evander Holyfield who, when asked after the '84 Olympics which fighter might fare best in his pro career, said of Whitaker and his style: "I think Pernell will be the best. His finesse ... the way he thinks. He's a sneaky guy, in a nice way, and he boxes sneaky. He'll throw his arm out and if you flinch, he probably won't throw a punch. But if you don't he might pop you."....
Two ATGs on one single team: Whitaker and Holyfield. It will never happen again. Hill and Taylor are HOFs too...
Mayweather was in the 96 team which was pretty solid as well: 106 lbs: Albert Guardado 112 lbs: Eric Morel 119 lbs: Zahir Raheem 125 lbs: Floyd Mayweather 132 lbs: Terrance Cauthen 139 lbs: David Diaz 147 lbs: Fernando Vargas 156 lbs: David Reid 165 lbs: Rhoshii Wells 178 lbs: Antonio Tarver 201 lbs: Nate Jones +201 lbs: Lawrence Clay-Bey 88 had Jones, Bowe, Mercer and Carbajal.
