In fact, let's go with 1986 Holmes that many say to this day, edged out Spinks. Could the Moore of 1952 defeat that version of Holmes?

Love Archie but I don’t think he’s got anything for any version of Holmes.

Spinks got him and Moore is equal to Spinks.

I actually think Archie is a little better but I still don’t think he’s got anything for Holmes.

I think that Archie beats that Holmes. Not prime for prime but those versions I think Archie beats him more clearly then Spinks did

For the record, I think very highly of Holmes, he’s No. 3 on my ATG list behind Ali and Louis, and the time frame that’s referenced here is the dividing line where I still apply that to him.

    It would hardly be surprising.

Any post utilizing Spinks wins and pinpointing Moore is as good or better is completely missing the stylistic component which is crucial.

Spinks fought an energetic quite mobile fight and was able to get in and out wit quick flurries. He backed all this up with a great jab of his own and paced himself brilliantly. In the rematch he gave away the first 4 rounds in order to stay out of the way of an aggressive Holmes who was in better condition than he was in fight 1. Spinks still had energy late in both 15 rounders. Moore hasn't got this sort of versatility and i can't see him being mobile enough to win. He's not going to hold Holmes off via power. Spinks also has quite a bit of height on Moore which sure didn't hurt against Holmes.

I'm not sure who would win between Spinks and Moore.

Holmes might stop Moore in the mid to late rounds i think.

I wouldn't consider it an odd choice if we were talking 84 Holmes, but the one that fought Spinks isn't the type to KO Moore.

I personally think that Moore is still on the backend here, likely to drop the decision, but I don't think that he'd get knocked out by Holmes.

Moore was hardly unknockoutable at heavyweight, nor light heavyweight for that matter. Holmes had the elusive Spinks going multiple times across the two fights but age and Spinks sheer resilience and elusiveness kept him out of bigger trouble. Moore doesn't have that mobility for mine against the mush bigger Holmes. At heavyweight Holmes has the chin to take liberties with him as well.

In 1952, which is the model being pitted against Holmes his weights were 175 1/2-180 1/2-183-176-181-172 1/2. Moore will be giving up almost 40 pounds which is basically double what Spinks conceded. Moore's extra weight will be much more artificial than Spinks who was a bigger man than Moore and put on his poundage highly scientifically as i showed a while back.

Holmes was still stopping big men late in his first career. Moore was classier and more skillful but much small than them. Tho well declined i still favor a Holmes stoppage actually, particularly the Holmes of the rematch. Moore is giving up too much functional size IMO and stylistically this really doesn't bode well.

I was under the impression that we were pumping Moore up for the fight. As good as the Old Mongoose was, if anyone is giving away that much weight against Holmes, it's over.
