I agree with you guys completely. I think the fact that they all seemed to be willing to fight each other in the 80s is an element that is central to keeping the HW division alive. I did another quick experiment and compiled a list of the '85 fighters, and which other fighter on the Ring ranking list they fought (I probably missed a few, but it's just a though experiment): Spinks: Holmes x2 Thomas: Berbick, Weaver, Witherspoon, Coetzee Holmes: Spinks x2, Williams, Witherspoon, Berbick, Weaver Witherspoon: Tubbs, Thomas, Page, Holmes, Williams Tubbs: Witherspoon, Page Page: Tubbs, Coetzee, Witherspoon, Berbick Coetzee: Page, Dokes, Thomas, Weaver Berbick: Williams, Thomas, Page, Holmes Williams: Witherspoon, Berbick, Weaver, Holmes Weaver: Holmes, Coetzee, Thomas, Dokes x2, Thomas, Williams Dokes: Coetzee, Weaver x2 Next, I just replaced the fighters in this list with the matching ranks from the 2010 list. With the same willingness to fight, these are the fights we'd get to see happen before their careers ended: Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye x2 Vitali Klitschko vs. Denis Boytsov Vitali Klitschko vs. Alexander Dimitrenko Vitali Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin Vitali Klitschko vs. Eddie Chambers David Haye vs. Nikolai Valuev David Haye vs. Alexander Povetkin David Haye vs. Denis Boytsov David Haye vs. Alexander Dimitrenko Alexander Povetkin vs. Tomasz Adamek Alexander Povetkin vs. Ruslan Chagaev Alexander Povetkin vs. Nikolai Valuev Tomasz Adamek vs. Ruslan Chagaev Ruslan Chagaev vs. Eddie Chambers Ruslan Chagaev vs. Denis Boytsov Eddie Chambers vs. Chris Arreola Eddie Chambers vs. Alexander Dimitrenko Denis Boytsov vs. Nikolai Valuev Nikolai Valuev vs. Alexander Dimitrenko Alexander Dimitrenko vs. Chris Arreola x2 Now - if today's HW division were as active as the '85 one; if we knew from the fighters' willingness to face each other that we would eventually get to see these fights - would we still look at today's HW division as stale and boring? I'm not so sure...
