1985 Tony Tubbs vs. 2010 Vitali Klitschko

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by KOTF, Oct 30, 2010.

  1. tommy, vitali klitschko is bigger, stronger, heavier and his hitting power is similar, tyson might be lightly harder puncher in his prime because he dominated his speed. Vitali has heavier hands. Vitali has better chin than tyson, no doubt on it

Vitali doesn't have anything like Tyson's punch, and certainly doesn't have his speed. A 39 year old Vitali and a 21 year-old Tyson are about as different in style as is possible.

  3. yes, obviously they had different styles but i think that vitali might hurt tubbs and ko/tko him.

Tony Tubbs was a tub of goo for the most part. The slob had boxing ability and talent, but was too hooked on Twinkies and Ding-Dong's to really care at all about becoming a great fighter and champion... And, the only other reason why he hung around so long in the game is because he's fathered roughly (16) ******* kids that he can't really afford...

V.K. utterly smokes Tubbs like a blunt in every facet... V.K. is a true ring great...

    I don't get it :lol::patsch

Tony Tubbs was more than savvy enough to at LEAST go the distance.

I can definitely see Vitali using a bobbing and weaving approach into Tubbs and beating him up on the inside resulting in a devastating one punch KO by a super crisp short left hook in the 2nd.

He does it all the time

If Vitali wins, it's by outworking the erratic Tubbs to a decision. There might be a slight chance of him scoring a late round TKO, but then again it should be noted that an in-shape Tubbs was prepared to go 15.

Who voted for Tubbs via decision? Not a chance. Vitali has not lost more than 2 rounds vs any man in his entire career. His size, skills, height, activity, power, smarts, and defense would pretty much take Tubbs out of his game. As Soon as VK hit Tubbs, he would like most fighters go into a defensive mode, hoping to counter

The only thing bobbing and weaving would be Tubbs ample flesh when Vitali hits it.

But the 229 pound Tubbs who beat Page is certainly not as overweight as the grossly out of shape 260 pound Kirk Johnson, 270 pound Danny Williams, 250+ Arreola.
Corrie Sanders and Sam Peter weren't exactly ripped when they fought VK either. JC Gomez was an inflated 200 pounder.
If you actually take a look at Page-Tubbs it's clear that Tubbs was leaner than at least half of those men, and a far better boxer too.

Somehow 2000s heavyweights get a bit of a free ride for their being overweight, where 80s guys don't. And VK gets a free pass for defending his crappy belt against guys like Sosnowski and Briggs.
Even a 244 pound Tubbs would have made multiple defences against most of those bums.

    Agreed.:thumbsup

Tubbs was a slob at 244 pounds in '86 against Spoon down in Georgia on HBO, but Tubbs did hang tuff and go all 15 rds in losing a fairly close decision and blowing his WBA title to the 227 pound Tim Spoon...

HOWEVER!! Tubbs would find out that V.K. has way more power, strength and skills than the lazy Tim Spoon ever had... No way in hell Tubbs beats Klitschko.... But I can picture Tubbs fighting very safely and survivng for 12 rds in losing a lopsided decision to the great Vitali Klit....

Nobody that Vitali has fought in his comeback would of come close to beating even the fatter than usual Tubbs of the Spoon fight.

The only guy that he's ever even fought that's as good as 1985 Tubbs is arguably Lewis.
