I think the aged Hagler may have made Mugabi look better than he actually was, but still, he was pretty damn good - legit KO power, great handspeed and good strength. I think Mugabi would have edged this, believe it or not, by decision, with some fireworks along the way.
i dont want to make out that this is a blemish on his record. but he was easily countered in that fight. hagler was a great middlewieght in the real meaning of great. but no one can say that hagler was faster than mugabi in that fight. we know what mugabi is and has but people forget what terry had. the notorious terrible terry norris was immensly fast at hand and foot, keeping up with meldrick taylor ,who on esb at least is ranked top 3 for the fastest handspeed... norris was also a great combo puncher he could set off combinations coupled with his power, handspeed and aggresiveness but patient mind i think he would be able to outbox mugabi, counter with uppercuts and rights then be able to finish the show.
Mugabi may have lated a couple more rounds. I don't know what Mugabi ever did of note, other than lose to Hagler.
Norris would not have done much had he been around then either though. Especially not if he opted to challenge Hagler, who would have given him an equally career shortening beating.
norris made 154 easily he actually rarely came in over 152 pounds mugabi was a big big guy. i looked on boxrec and the guy seemed to stay at middlewieght longer than he was a jnr middle. it's kinda funny when people say that norris picked on blown up welterwieghts...when most moved up only 3 pounds...no other light middle at the time fought that low. rosi was nown to be very spective on the scales. so if your going to pick anyone and you want to be a 2 or 3 division champ noris was a good choice to fight
a K.O. <Flip's coin> Terry Norris by K.O. (He did it 1 against a 150 Yr old version, why not a young Beast)
