Spinks TKO8. The cagey & awkward Spinks would make the sloppy, wide punches of Haye miss often, & he'd land many flush counters. By the later rounds, Haye is wearing out & is floored by 'The Jinx', he gets up but is saved by the referee as he staggers from viscous, blistering combinations.
Frankly, I think its a tad difficult to make an assessment with any real conviction. Neither man has/had very many fights at heavyweight, and neither defeated a truly good prime opponent. Spinks has the better legacy, and may very well be the better fighter overall. But I don't know if this gives him the automatic edge above 200 lbs, where things would be a totally different playing field as opposed to a match at light heavy or cruiser. Spinks really only fought two punchers at this weight class. One of whom was a shell of his former self, while the other dispatched Michael in 91 seconds. That doesn't give me much to work with. Haye, for all his shortcummings, is a fit specimen in his prime, with a huge punch and the ability to launch a two fisted attack. His chin is suspect, but then I don't know how much of Spinks' power traveled with him to the heavyweight ranks, and nor can I accurately assume if he'd deal with Haye's power with any greater success.
I thought i would bump this old Hook topic, now it is more interesting, as we have more footage to judge Haye on.
