Bad bad style match up for Frazier. Fastest starter ever with vicious punch power v My favorite heavy ever who takes 2,3 rounds to warm before he smokes...Wouldn't want to see it

    1988 Iron Mike.

And don't forget both of these opponents were ATGs themselves & were never stopped in any other fight.

Tyson would say Frazier, as would Frazier. I say Tyson.

No ****. Some of the comments on here are laughable at best. I suspect most of these goons have never seen a fraiser fight.

Seen plenty of Frazier's fights, he's an ATG for sure. It's just the style match up, same as I think Tyson would most likely have trouble with prime George Foreman...

Tyson said he was nothing like Frazier and was much better at avoiding shots...ppl tend to forget the 80's Tyson felt he was invincible and Frazier was no exception.

Tyson actually felt offended when ppl said he was just like Frazier and that was before social media when Tyson had a true warriors mentality.

There are plenty of videos of teenage Mike placing himself very conservatively among the ATG heavyweights and mostly speaking of them in reverent tones and hesitating to pick himself with confidence over any of them, even the obvious stylistic mismatches in his favor. He was pretty humble for the most part in the 1980s, and was a truly ardent student of the game.

Even if he didn't say he would lose to Frazier, he probably didn't trash-talk Smokin' Joe nor claim it would've been easy work (even though a neutral observer could make the argument that, based on styles, it well could be). Got a link to whichever interview you're thinking of?

I do not doubt that he might have rankled at being pigeonholed into the role of a "Frazier clone", though, when he prided himself on the versatility that Cus had drilled into him, approaching the game with a little borrowed from each of the greats and standing on the shoulders of all those giants. He probably considered himself more of a Patterson clone tbh. (and wouldn't have taken it as insulting to his ego, would probably have been flattered and pleased that somebody could parse out the similarities in their styles).

Tyson not only said that , he also took personal offense to Joe when he called him overrated and said Marvis was going to give him a boxing lesson..etc..etc.

The 80's Tyson at least said once on occasion no one would beat him. Of course he was humble as a kid to many including Ali but make no mistake Tyson knew his superiority over these guys even post prison.

I grew up in this era if I could find the vids and quotes I would post them...on my current media I can't do that...computer crashed....

Tyson patterned himself after Dempsey by CU's Damato ...patterened being the key word...he became LEEVELS of sharpness through Damato no one would ever see coming.

Poor examples. Holmes was coming off an almost two year layoff and two back to back losses with no tune up fight and showed up fat. Plenty of people would've stopped Larry Holmes that night.

Michael Spinks was coming off a one year layoff with two shot knees and immediately retired after the fight.
