How could Michael Spinks, (age 31, undefeated) only last 1/2 a round; whereas, Holmes, 38, and having lost his last two fights to Spinks, managed 4 rounds with 1988 Mike Tyson?

I mean, Holmes was inactive longer than Spinks when he faced Tyson. Also, Holmes had been showing signs of decay long before he lost twice to Spinks.
Holmes was in his prime at the age Spinks was when Tyson blew him away.

Any insight on why things played out this way?

It's one of life's mysteries, like how a thermos knows whether to keep something hot or keep it cold

The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house Martin or the plumber may seek warmer climes in winter yet these are not strangers to our land?

Holmes was a tough, hard, dude. He used clinching effectively, came out boxing on his toes in round 4 I believe. Some of the best combos Ive ever seen though from Tyson. PICTURE PERFECT counter right. Peak for peak odds could go through the roof like plus 500 for Holmes, and Holmes could pull the upset too. With all do respect to Spinks, Tyson would steamroll any former light heavy. Maybe Conn could run and hang for a few.Hopkins could last a few rounds:D I kid.

    Spinks was clearly terrified.

Tyson beat the **** out of both of them... makes quite an impact if you were around at the time....nobody else did that to either man before or since...

That is besides the point, they should still have been able to mange some sort of effective resistance.

Simply because Tyson managed to land the payoff punch on Spinks quicker than he did on Holmes. Nothing more complex than that

    Wrong.

That the former L / Heavy was **** scared before he entered the ring, and the other guy was 40 years old and inactive are EXACTLY the points.

It might be better if you took your Tyson nut hugging to asser 69 by personal messaging.

I watched both fights live or at home live:p ..when Holmes came out to fight a bit in round 4 and was squashed, it showed a lot of Tyson's strengths.. two fights dont make a hero.. Tyson was never going to be the hero type because at that time when he was coming up.. the fights were all about trying to figure out who would actually land a real punch or maybe a combination and just stave off the inevitable.. if Tyson had been a boxeer insted of a banger, he would have been viewed a lot more pleasantly by fans...Tyson was the **** for a very short period of time and stands up to almost every other boxer in history when he was focused
