1987 Tyson Vs. 1987 Foreman 1989 Tyson Vs. 1989 Foreman 1990 Tyson Vs. 1990 Foreman 1991 Tyson Vs. 1991 Foreman 1995 Tyson Vs. 1995 Foreman 1996 Tyson Vs. 1996 Foreman 1997 Tyson Vs. 1997 Foreman?
I belong to the minority school of people who thinks that 88 Tyson beats any Foreman. 70s George was too wide open for Mike, and 80s George was too slow and lumbering.
Thinking about this one, I can't see anyway that George beats Tyson. Foreman s power and chin makes him a danger at all times , but 1988 Tyson is too fast , too sharp and too relentless for the slower comeback George to control . Imo Tyson stops him ,on his feet, between Rounds 5-7
I would personally make Mike Tyson the favorite in all of those time frames. But unlike some I don’t think that it would be a one sided affair. There were some of those years where Tyson would have to work for the win(s) and would eat some big shots along the way.
1987-1989 Foreman was not ready for Tyson. You can make are argument for 1991 Foreman giving 1991 Tyson problems. Tyson had little head movement by then and would walk right into Foreman. I’d still favor Tyson.
Starting in 1991, I'd give Foreman a better chance than most fans. I'm not saying he would have beaten Mike, but he would have had a good chance. Especially from 1995 to 1998, or later if he'd continued his career. In 1999, Tyson was very easily landed by Botha, winning round after round. George was bigger, stronger, had a better chin, and distributed power better than Frans. And he wouldn't have been knocked out with a short punch.
Unpopular opinion, but I think Mike likely beats young George but loses to the best Old George...maybe the guy who fought Holyfield? Mike would not be able to 'own' the middle distance against old Foreman and would be susceptible to his efficient, deceptive hooks. I think Old George could smother Tyson and has more than enough resilience to take what is coming back. Mike looks great for 4-6 rounds and George takes over down the stretch likely stopping an exhausted and demotivated Tyson round the 10th... Hey, y'all asked.... Young George was not crafty enough and had little knowledge of conserving his fuel. I think he and Mike get into a proper old fight but Tyson weather the early storm and puts young George away within 8 rounds. Frazier/schmazier, different fighters...
...whereas I think the best Old George beats the best Young George...really interesting discussion, thanks for you contribution.
Even if that were true I highly doubt he does better historically. Prime Foreman is not struggling with Stewart, Schulz and losing wide to Tommy Morrison, I don't see it
