A - Buchanan's prime ended before 1980, so he is outwith the time-frame here.

B - If you think Hamed or Hatton had superior ability to prime Eubank, I feel sorry for you.

Hamed was a freak natural talent, athletically. But it's hard to say he had superior ability to Eubank because Eubank could be so much more dexterious in his feet and had so much more complexity in his punches, than Hamed. Both were very elusive, Hamed with long-torso'd reflexes and Eubank with short-torso'd flexibility. From a standing position, Hamed was probably more elusive but with a step involved Eubank was. Maybe Hamed did have superior ability but Eubank was more skilled, stronger chin and bigger heart; therefore the superior fighter. Less gifted, but the superior fighter for me.

Congratulations, you've managed to illustrate how well Eubank can do at home against a certain type of fighter. But please don't mention Gary Stretch as if he was a remotely legitimate opponent OR forget the fact that he looked awful and was getting outboxed as he was forced to come forward and make the fight.

And even in a clip where he's knocking someone out, you can see why he's so poor coming forward.

It's just slow and sloppy, even if he does throw a stylish jab.

Only Brits from the last 30 years who have a shout over Eubank are Lewis and Calzaghe

Eubank struggled with wide southpaw stances (Stretch, Schommer, Calzaghe) understandably because of his short torso, causing him to over-reach the right hand. He had limitations in his body structure but overcome them well.

He had natural power. He had natural speed. He had natural reflexes. He had a very poor grasp of boxing's fundamental skills, and this was sorely exposed the first time he fought a prime HOF-calibre opponent.

As early as his 5th fight you could see his problem with a wide southpaw stance:

But against Da Silva in Liverpool, the guy was southpaw but had a narrow stance and Eubank skipped around him, picked him apart. Rocchigiani, also had a narrow stance.

As opposed to all the prime HOF calibre opponents Eubank beat. And if you mention Benn as if that was prime Benn, I'll KNOW you have no idea about boxing. Leave the Eubank defending to atberry who, while deluded, tends to know what he's on about.

Yes, fighters who like to impose their strength/power and on you as opposed to box tend to have narrow stances. But more importantly, this guy doesn't have a significant height or reach advantage, where you could understand Eubank struggling a bit with a wide stance. He really should be able to do better.

    beat me to it.

he lost to mab (nothing to be ashamed of btw) at a point in his career when he didn't even bother training; so he's ****? :patsch

naz had great "ability". his flaws were many (i could do a laundry list tbh) but questioning his "ability" makes you look foolish. :thumbsup
