We've discussed here from time to time exceptional years in boxing, and 1982 has garnered quite a bit of attention as one of the great years in the sport's history, with Holmes-Cooney, Pryor-Arguello, Chacon-Limon IV, and of course the bad side with the Mancini-Kim tragedy, which helped reshape boxing to what we see today. Truly a watershed year for the sport. Another candidate would be 1990.........Douglas-Tyson, Holyfield's ascension to the heavyweight title, the last decent era of network TV boxing, Chavez-Taylor, Whitaker's lightweight genius.....lots of great stuff going on. What are some of your memories/thoughts about 1990?
Good one! I also remember Jorge Paez being a fixture on the NBC network at that time. Always entertaining.
I remember saying to somebody after Chavez-Taylor that we have already had 2 historic fights in the first 3 months of the year, the other being, of course, Tyson-Douglas
Sky TV taking Tyson / Douglas thus spoiling my VHS collection of Tyson from Marvis Frazier on.....
