Holmes UD. Using the Tyson fight as a yardstick to assess how Douglas would do against Holmes is tenous imo, consdering the vast stylistic differences between Holmes & Tyson. Douglas is taller and heavier, but Holmes is BETTER. Holmes is quicker, mobile and nimble enough to outbox Douglas, imo.
Prime Holmes vs the Douglas of the Tyson fight in 1990?...that was 1 night in the life of Buster Douglas...Holmes had many more...Holmes wins...better fighter...
No contest...Holmes...Buster had a moment in the sun but the Tyson he fought had way too many personal problems at the time for it to reflect accurately on Buster's true talents. A great win for him but Holmes has too much of everything even on a bad day.
Holmes by UD. Larry wins a tough battle against a James Douglas carrying a very heavy heart in ring, losing his mom just before the fight Tyson fight. The difference is, Douglas wouldn't be facing an unfocused Tyson but arguably the best heavyweight in the world in 1978. He loses the jab war with Holmes which directly corresponds with the outcome of the fight. Larry lands the cleaner right hand shots in the process. Buster would have his moments and likely gives Holmes a scare or two.
We all know Buster got lucky for just one night...his 15 mins of fame was short lived due to havin to fight Holyfield soon after he KO'd tyson...Holmes kills him in any era of his career....
