1991 foreman vs Marciano

Holyfield Foreman stops Marciano....no ifs or buts.

Marciano needed the eleventh hour hail mary against soup kitchen fed stone old with 7 digits on the odometer Journeyman Walcott.....and had to get off the floor to do it.

Please tell me what strategy the Italian Stallion is going to use.......never mind......he always fought the same way straight ahead brawling, lol.

Marciano's specialty is to throw relative slow leather in the wheel house while catching two and delivering one.............that is absolute death if you are 5'10/185 against Foreman...........Rocky has never ever met a guy in the Ring as powerful and mean as Foreman vs Foreman saw a fighter similar to him, Frazier ,and used him as a bowling ball.

I am familiar with some fighters who sparred with Foreman in preparation for his more notable comeback fights, yes he was slow but he still had enormous strenght. According to them he was a unmovable object and even glancing blows made you see double or hits on arms or body made you numb for a moment.


One more time,old Foreman would sign ANY contract at ANY time to get Marciano in the Ring vs he would never consider going in the Ring with a Tyson, Bowe or Lewis. He would only mention those for publicity.

 

True Stewart was not 185 lbs but he was glass-chinned, easy to hit and basically a neverbeen compared
to Marciano. And don't forget a 5'10" fighter beat Stewart much more easier than Foreman ! Obviously i can see
big chance Marciano was better than Alex Stewart.

What about the Valuev's 7' and more than 300 lbs vs. the prime skinny 6'3"-6'4" about 220 lbs Foreman ?
The size difference is just too much.Moreover Valuev never was down like
Foreman(or Flooreman) who could know the floor well in his prime.

And you think Goldman would call AJ and Wilder fast? I’m going by modern vernacular, not old timey language where if you move three times as fast as Lee Savold, you would be known as slow.

Wilder is a more complete fighter than Shavers. With much much better defense and ring IQ. He is very smart about spending his energy and using range. He's a fighter through and through. He gets it.

One of the things that impressed me most about Wilder is his psychology. And it is his most overlooked trait. He is a warrior, not a man trying to be one. He sees it as a blood sport. He is ready to kill and he is ready to be killed. He is vicious, he is aggressive but also smart and tempered at the same time. He basks in the most dangerous elements of the sport. He’s not really a bully, he’s smarter than that.

I have a feeling that when Deontays heart gets tested against world class opponents, people will be impressed.

It’s amusing watching supposed boxing experts, with 100+ years of data, having the inability to recognize talent when it’s under their nose.

Gods answering our prayers by giving us dynamic talented heavyweights, and most people don’t even see it.

 

I'll say this (with zero snark). At least @reznick has been fairly consistent in his appraisals of heavyweights. He passionately celebrates uptempo, hard-hitting punchers who win championships, no matter how crude or technically flawed their technique.

 

Wilder certainly wouldn't be considered slow. Goldman and others would be amazed by how much space he can cover in the ring in 2-3 seconds, and his ability to reach out and touch people with concussive punches from very long range.

Joshua wouldn't be considered conspicuously slow or anything. He might seem slower than average but he'd be an absolute behemoth.

 

We're talking speed, not range, or being a behemoth.

How are you measuring Rockys speed exactly?
Is it how much ground he covers per round?
Is it the travel speed of his fists?
In what area is Wilder faster than Marciano?

It's weird. I just can't see a single critic calling Rocky slow if he fought today. I can definitely see the opposite happening, and people calling him fast for his style and power.

Forget all those questions and let me try to simplify with a more poignant example; do you think Rocky was slower than Murat Gassiev?

And if no, do you think Gassiev will suffer the same stigma of being known as a slow fighter?

 

I appreciate the observation, and well said.

I've come to recognize that success can be the result of many attributes in boxing.
But there seems to be a disproportionate amount of those kinds of fighters at the top, historically. Even moreso for heavyweights maybe.
I believe that generally those are the best kinds of boxers, save the rare omega here and there; Ali, Fury, Johnson.

I do believe that Ali is the best, despite not being that kind of fighter.
A very special man he was.
