Jones was the number 1 contender for the WBO title Eubank held at this point Though Jones was as green as hell whod win?
In '91 If I had to pick, I think I would give it to Eubank, considering how green Roy was then. Eubank was very hungry at that point in his career, and I don't think Roy would have had the experience to overcome that. However, if it was in '93 or any point thereafter, I don't think Eubank would have been able to overcome Roy's ability.
Apparently jones made several offers to eubank but his team was asking allot of money at the time . Not sure if they wanted the fight in the states but espn did touch on it a few yrs back . Can anyone pull some info on it ??
Eubank was as tough as they come, very strong mentally, & would always give absolutely everything he had! He showed great resilience many time throughout his career & displayed a solid chin! Eubank was a big SMW, never mind MW & was very strong. At this point of their careers, I would favour Eubank to win a SD, but he would have to draw Jones into the trenches! Eubank would not be able to outbox him!
The only guy from our shores who would have had a chance was Nigel Benn and that was a punchers chance. Eubanks was a decent champion who fought some terrible opposition under the WBO (newly formed at the time) He was an excellent showman and guts fighter. But wouldnt have had the balls to fight ROY or Toney. Benn would have because for me Benn is a greater fighter that Chris
Eubank was lucky that he fought in an era where it was'nt necessary to fight in the states for the big paydays. Even collins came back for a piece. Imo Jones would of beat Eubank in 91,and we may have missed out on all those domestic classics.
No shame in those defeats pal. He came back to uk for a piece of the Eubank, Benn, Watson era:good Domestic classics.
