I can't see 1992 Holmes beating Moorer. He did n't possess the tide changing punch that the old Foreman still had.
Depends on which Moorer shows up. I mean he never really looked that good at HW, apart from his early ding dong battles as a slugger, which approach I don't think will work against Larry. If he tries to box I can see Holmes squeaking a decision. I think Moorer can beat a 1995 Larry but before then I just feel Holmes has enough skill and legs left and also is mentally stronger.
No because my one big strike on Holmes is I don't think he ever fought a single southpaw in his entire pro career, and Moorer is champion caliber. Moorer by UD.
Bump. It’s very interesting stylistically, but I see Moorer taking away the jab with counter lefts to the body followed up by the right over the top backing Holmes up against the ropes and giving him nowhere to go, obviously prime Holmes would’ve been able to move around and avoid Moorer’s counters with his footwork, but old Holmes was more stationary and if Moorer took away Holmes’ jab, Holmes would have nowhere to go, and would get stuck on the ropes once he moves back so far. Moorer was more versatile than Mercer, more feints, more variety and less predictable, he’d make his attacks unpredictable and would take away the jab with level changes, feints and more educated pressure and closing the ring off better, the southpaw stance alone would take away the jab.
Not sure. I don’t know how many south paws Holmes faced in his career. Moorer had fast hands and decent skills. And while his chin was shaky I don’t think Holmes had the kind of power to exploit that
No way. A flat footed 42 year old whose main weapon is his jab isn't beating a talented southpaw. Holmes's jab effectiveness is automatically cut massively due to him facing a southpaw. And Holmes will be on shaky legs if he gets hit by Moorer's right hook - a punch he is not accustomed to defending agaisnt. To beat a good southpaw, you generally need both a great left hook and especially a great right hand. Foreman had both. Holmes had neither. Foreman used his left to force Moorer to move into the direction of his right hand. Not going to work if you are Holmes. Moorer UD 12. I give Holmes a max of 3-4 rounds and that's being generous.
If Moorer came in flat and disinterested Holmes would trouble him greatly. The kind of performance where he came in 30 pounds too heavy and barely scrapped by a bum like Vaughn Bean.
Nothing I have to say is going to be fair. But at least I know that and I will keep it to myself. Because it can't be accurate if it's unfair. Unless it is. In which case, I will not have spoken the truth at the cost of risking the speaking of a lie .A lot of us could stand to learn that but the thread replies would be decimated.
