1992 Riddick Bowe vs 1919 Jack Dempsey

I'm pretty sure that most people today would argue that the distinction of the Greatest Heavyweight Champion to ever live would either be Joe Louis or Muhammad Ali.

While Dempsey is a great fighter and on an ATG Heavyweight list I rate Dempsey ahead of Bowe, head to head is a different story altogether.
I think Bowe at his best beats him. Dempsey frequently fought up and down to his level of competition.

I won't completely write Dempsey off, but Bowe would be a solid favorite.

I'd go further and say that Bowe wins via knockout inside 6 rounds.

 

I hate seeing these mismatches of who would win between a modern fighter vs a fighter from 100 years ago. The sweet science evolved too much to make this fair.

I go with Bowe...his uppercut was pretty extraordinary, and he could take those punches. But Dempsey would land on him more than many people would suspect, and Bowe would feel 'em.
