Ive argued this fight for a while. I chose 1992 for Whitaker because it was the only time he really fought at 140. Now who do you think would win finally once and for all. Whitaker was great at defense and kept a great work rate through his fights. Tszyu was awesome against Southpaws with a Pro record of 8-0 with 8 Ko's against them. Now at 140 who wins this fight.
Pernell 120-108 - outclassing Tyszu. Tyszu was easy to hit. He would be looking for counters all night but the only place the only place Kostya is punching is thin air all night Awaits for Zoo fans to point out Tyszu beat 3 C Class Southpaws Guess what Zoo fans - Pernell Whitaker is 100 times that boxer Shamba Mitchell or Judah is.
Cheers for the responses me and Sweet Pea have been arguing this subject for along time now. I still think Tszyu would catch him. and i have no problem with the people that think Whitaker would win because he was a great Champ.
Whitaker boxes circles around the stiff Tszyu. Tszyu quits in his corner in the 10th round. He wants no more embarrassment.
Even if he does catch Pernell that doesn't mean Pernell gets KO'd. Felix Trinidad who hits harder than Zoo couldn't KO a shot Whitaker. Whitaker had a very good chin. Tyszu couldn't stop Hatton, Ukral, Tackie, Phillips and they were all to be hit. Neither could he stop a past it Roger Mayweather
I agree that Tszyu would catch Sweet Pea at sometime in the fight, he was great at timing his opponents. But Whitaker had a great chin and I don“t think it would be enough for a KO. Whitaker UD 117-110.
Kostya was one of the finest exponents of 'The Art' when it came to handling southpaws. A simple rule he followed was keeping his left foot on the outside of his oponents rightfoot, therefore taking away the chance of a southpaw landing right hands with a great deal of power. Tszyu dropped many southpaws with single right hand shots. He had dynamite in that punch. 'Sweet Pea" enjoyed mixing it up, at close range, and demonstrating his clever array of punching and infighting evasiveness. This is one of the better fighter "comparison" questions listed on this site. It makes for many arguements, and or, questions. I wonder if Pernell had the 'chin' to absorb 10-15 Tszyu right hands??? I will not write anything suggesting an outcome, as the outcome seems to have been posted by all of the above members, I just hope this serves as a simple plate of food for thought.
Whitaker probably gets stunned late in the fight, might go down, but apart from that he owns the fight. Something like 9-3 or 10-2 decision.
Tszyu loses in a very close contest despite flooring Whitaker. Sweet Pea was very good but its not like he was unbeatable. Whittaker would not be able to back Tszyu up therefore allowing Tszyu to fight his fight (pace wise). Tszyu is very underestimated on these forums especially by the Americans who swear Pryor is the next coming of Jesus despite his resume being **** and his only "great" win being over a blown up featherweight (although a great one) whom he had 2 life and death struggles with.
