Duran had all those in spades, had much better defense and was a far better inside fighter on top of it all.
I could take these apologist posts more seriously if the people who wrote them had some semblance of a clue as to what they write. Tyson did NOT serve 4 years in prison he was convicted and sentenced in 1992, the same year he pulled out of a fight with Holyfield claiming a rib injury, and served 3 years in fact. He then set about restarting his career, by beating McNeeley, Mathis, Bruno, and Seldon in a combined 8 rounds, so spare me the " he was rusty " garbage. He chose Holyfield for his first defense of his WBA title, becaue Vander was perceived as the weakest option. Only as stated Holy had sheer contempt for Tyson and totally humiliated, battered and stopped the fool in 11 one sided rounds. The above are the facts of what occurred, NOT the opinions of a Tyson fanboy. Again the fact that his fans simply refuse to accept Tyson merely had a bully mentality, and would always have been fearful of someone as willing to fight Tyson ANY WAY he wanted it as Holyfield would, doesn't detract from the reality. Baddest man on the planet, what a f***ing joke. Withing a minute Holy puts the nut straight on the freak and gets him crying to Mitch Halpern like a baby. Can anyone imagine someone like Marciano, Frazier, Dempsey, Foreman, Ali, doing that?
Eight rounds of boxing in 4 plus years means there is no shot of Tyson being rusty? Tyson picked Holyfield because of money and he thought he cold beat him. Your 'wet dream' guy (Lewis) wasn't perceived as a huge threat either, having been waxed easily by McCall and struggling mightily with measuring stick Ray Mercer. Lewis without any title was not as marketable as Holyfield. Fans had wanted a Tyson/Holyfield fight in 1992, felt cheated when Tyson couldn't deliver it, and were happy to pay to see it in 1995.
Let's state facts. They fought twice and both times Holy won and he won both hands down. First bout he koed Tyson the second Tyson fouled out before he would have been koed. So in actual real world results Tyson is 0-2 vs Holy. When they fought Holy was certainly past his prime at 34. Tyson was 30. So even if we say for sure both times that was not the best Tydon. Well.....that was not the best Holy either. More than likely prime vs prime Holy wins. He did twice at the age of 34 plus. My feeling is he had Tysons number and just knew how to fight him.
The Tyson of the Spinks fight was much the same Tyson as in other fights. Spinks was just a non-threat, ready to be ko'd.
Yet another predictable fantasy post by yourself. No one mentioned Lewis, yet your hang up with the guy made you bring him into the equation. Hmm, very strange. I suppose Tyson dropping his belt and paying Lewis 4 million step aside money was just down to generosity on his and King's part was it? Well again the reality ( as opposed to fan boy garbage ) is Tyson DID see Lewis as a threat so took the "weaker" Holyfield. As for Mercer, he was another guy who would fight back, unlike the pathetic bully boy you slaver over who just quit fighting and got beaten up and KTFO when the going got tough. So just to remind you again Holyfield takes ANY version of Tyson you, and like minded fan boys can invent, and treats him with the same disdain he treated him with in the real world. ( twice )
Exactamundo. And just who would be picking that old 88 Mike Spinks over Commander Vander anyway? He got steamrooled by Tyson and he would be dominated by Holyfield as well. It goes longer but Spinks isn't going to be competitive.
you didn't refute anything "Salty" posted. He never said Tyson was in Prison four years. He said Tyson was "off" four years. This is a fact. Tyson didn't have a fight for over four years. And of course he was rusty. All one has to do is watch his fights before and after prison to see the change. Also, why the need to cuss and call posters and boxers names when someone disagrees with you. Are you really that insecure? Hate seems to be your main emotion.
Holyfield was giving as good as he got when he and Tyson sparred during the Olympic trials.. Holyfield barely weighed 175 pounds then so steroids my a**!! Did he take something, possibly, is it the reason he won, hell no!!!! Holyfield always had the right attributes to beat Tyson or to give him the fight of his life.. 1. chin 2. Ring smarts 3. Heart 4. No fear 5. Enough speed and power I hate that Tyson lost to Douglas in '90 because I was so looking forward to Tyson vs Holyfield in that June of 1990, I was 15 years old and boxing had been my favorite sport for as far back as those '84 Olympics. Holyfield was my favorite fighter even back then he and Tyson both were my favorites. I'm glad we finally got the fight in '96 the win for Evander did plenty for his legacy a win by Tyson wouldn't have meant as much for him as he'd really already carved out quite a legacy. Prime for Prime it's a 50/50 But I'll still take Holyfield
Holyfied being 4 years older when they fought during the Olympic triials then would have been an advantage. His success at that weight is a good point though. Yet it is not "possinly" that "Evan Fields" took PEDs. It is overwhelmingly likely. That added strength helped greatly when they fought. Espeically in the clinches. And Evander NEEDED to often tie Tyson up still. But it was impressive.
I'll agree if he had a little magic potion (we'll call it). you're correct in saying that it would more than likely help his strength. However what always seems to be massively overlooked about the fight in '96 was Holyfield was also not nearly the fighter he was in his earlier years. So much that he opened as a 25-1 underdog!! Mostly what you always here is how shot this version of Tyson was.. Younger Evander though a touch smaller was much faster, threw more fluid combos and had a much better gas tank. So the fight may have looked a little different. But ultimately I still think he out guts Tyson for the UD or late TKO, in a much more competitive fight. He's just to tough mentally in comparison to Tyson and that's the difference. That and he has the chin and recuperative powers needed to whether a Tyson storm.
What pure unadulterated rubbish. I bet the world was full of bars loaded with Tyson fan boys saying " Oh sh it Mikey is real rusty here " as he was knocking over McNeeley, Mathis, Bruno, and Seldon. Don't try putting your own values on those of us who were NOT moronic enough to go round shouting from the highest mountain " He's back. " at the time. As for " cussing " as you call it. I give as good as I get, and your opinion of it is of less than no consequence to me. If you have a problem with someone referring to a convicted ******, as a ****** ( or a slang equivalent ) that possibly says more about you, than it does about them.
