I yanked out my 1994 fight card VHS tape that Don King produced down in Mexico that featured an all-star cast of, "Trinidad, Castro, Randall & Chavez" in separate title fights this evening... :deal In my book, the title fight at 160 pounds with Jorge Castro and John David Jackson stole the show by way of Castro's desperate comeback from near death KO of Jackson in the fight... WICKED! :bbb John David Jackson was a fairly skilled southpaw at 154 / 160 pounds, but his chin owned several glass pieces, as well... That much is true... WORD! Jorge Castro was normal in the skills dept., but his heart, soul and power was there at 160 pounds... No doubt... I love this vato... I do... :good In round 7, it appeared Castro was thumbed by Jackson or something, however, a wicked cut developed over Castro's right eye... Castro was on the verge of being stopped by Jackson's furious assault... patsch Come the 9th stanza, Jackson nails Castro in the cojones, but was merely warned for the foul... Jackson got his act together after his warning and went on the attack but, foolishly, Jackson went wild when he had a hurt Castro on the ropes and got caught and nailed by a desperate Castro hook that brought home the bacon for Jorge Castro.... BOOM! Fight was basically over by that juncture, yet J.D. Jackson got up and had to be dropped 2X more in order for the fight to be waived off.... :yep Jorge Castro KO 9 J.D. Jackson...:admin:tong MR.BILL:rasta
How about this? Just finished giving it a re-watch on Youtube not 5 minutes ago. What a fight. One of the best examples of a truly out of nowhere, come from behind victory you're likely to see. Proof that all it takes is one punch. Even the ending aside, it was a hell of a fight leading up to it. I had Jackson up 7 rounds to 1, but both men landed some very good shots and had the other rocked on multiple occasions. Jackson was sharp-shooting the hell out him in the early goings before Castro came on at the end of the 3rd and continued into the 4th (only round I gave him), dishing him a beating right back (although Jackson was with him the whole way). It seemed like Jackson was always landing more punches (God knows how many he threw), but when Castro opened up toward the end of certain rounds when Jackson had blown his wad he got in the more effective blows. In the 5th or 6th Castro got rocked with a big 1-2 (I believe that's when the cut came) and from then on it looked like Jackson was running away with it. He gave him some beatings against the ropes. So many flush punches landed. The 9th round was something else. After Jackson rocked him yet again with a sharp 1-2, Castro retreated to the ropes while Jackson pursued and proceeded to tee off. Out of nowhere, Castro throws a right hook which falls just short, and with the momentum brings back around a big left, landing square on Jackson's jaw as he swings his own left. Down goes Jackson. After that he was not recuperating. Castro didn't even really land anything of note in the subsequent knockdowns and ref stoppage. The damage was already done. Great fight.
C'mon, hasn't anyone else seen this epic from 1994 Mexico before???? Castro owned elephant sized balls to come through and KO Jackson.... MR.BILL
Yes, it was an amazing ending and a very good fight. I sure miss those Don King PPV cards. Plus it was easier to steal cable back then. I watched the rematch and felt Jackson got jobbed. Castro scored 2 KDs, but did little else.
I watched it only once , as well as the rest of the Castro-Johnson-Jackson affairs . Castro was the man out of these 3. Also , if a man floors his opponent 2:0 in a fight and doesn't get the decision then it is a robbery. How many former light middleweights can show the resiliency Castro showed at light heavyweight and cruiserweight ? Castro is an all-time great , p4p wise , even if he didn't have the longevity in a single weight class. p4p ranking is about the career in its whole , and if a man maintains his resiliency and/or power through a vast range of weights , like Langford , Toney , Armstrong , Duran and Castro did , then that man is great.
Castro is a legenday latino fighter / champion, but his respect gets dicked by critics globally.... MR.BILL
