Oscar fought 7 fights at lmw, all of them against fighters that where either abover their best weight (Mosley, Mayorga, Mayweather), past their best (Mayorga, Vargas, Castillejo) or never anything (Campas, Forbes). It was never his best weight. In 2007 he looked like **** against an over-cautious, small, above his best weight Mayweather.
1995 Vasquez was a better jmw to begin with and not that far past his prime as Oscar was. I don't see 2007 Oscar doing well against 1995 Vasquez. And the best Oscar at jmw wouldn't beat he best Vasquez at jmw either.
I think I rank Oscar better than most people in classic but he just wasn't a very good jmw. He made it seem so by fighting opponents that had names but not at their best.

Oscar underrated once again:patsch THis shouldnt surprise me:-(
Actually I liked Vasquez and thought that he was a good fighter but not in Oscars league.
He was a better in the ligter weights but still a very good at JM in fact i can only think of a few that would have beat him here.
Its popular to say Vargas was past it when he fought Oscar but he was still very good and i dont think he was past it at all. You talk of him fighting guys that moved up well he started out as a JL so everyone got to cut the crap with that sorry line.
You know if everyone nit picked every ATG resume the way they do Oscar there would only be a few greats. All the others wouldnt be nothing special.

Anarci, maybe you canc ontribute to my thread 'why modern boxing has lost depth' as it addresses the issues as to why certain modern fighters may be perceived as 'underrated' :good

You are deceived by the names but since you are a fan I forgive you.

    To put this into perspective:
Look at Oscars record at jmw: 7 fights, 5 wins, 2 losses - I thought Mosley edged it. Of those 5 wins two were against non-entities on a bigger scale. Mayorga was clearly past his best and above his best weight. Vargas and Castillejo were also past their best but still good.
So he has two good wins. One of tthese wins over a fighter that was beaten in his prime by Vasquez and in his own backyard. And the other beaten on quality by his wins over Winky, albeit still a bit green, Daniels and Trice.
Vasquez was the better jmw. Oscar he better fighter p4p. No doubt about that. :bart

Aaron Davis is a pretty underrated win on Vasquez's ledger. Good competitive fight too.
