Why don't you post the entire story instead of a faction of it and then call that fraction the truth? That's the bigger question. Why have you never mentioned the rest of the story, namely that the turning down the $13.5m and the acceptance of the $4m step aside money was CONDITIONAL ON LEWIS FIGHTING TYSON AFTER THE SELDON FIGHT.

It seems to me those last nine words are pretty relevant to the discussion.

This ain't about how he'd have done this is about you, with underlying tone, are implying Lewis is running scared, deny it if you want, you are. If you aren't then explain why some people on this thread have said absurd things in Tyson's favor and you have given NO response and yet when someone puts a point across about Lewis you shoot them down or try to counter immediately.

    Unbiased

I think Tyson would of knocked Lewis out early, Lewis was not with Steward long enough to be ready for a Tyson like oppenent. As Widdow pointed out earlier in the thread, Lewis just got down getting knocked out by McCall, having a tough fight with Bruno who was winning the early rounds, even out jabbing Lewis at one point, and really only fell apart because of his stamina issues, while also having a life of death fight with Mercer, which I though was either a draw or Mercer victory. All in all, I see Tyson overwhelming Lewis early, to where Lennox ends up being knocked out by the 3rd round.

Lewis would've KO'd Tyson like he did years later, pre-1990 Tyson is the only Tyson I see beating Lewis. After that he's basically a headhunter who had enough talent to beta nearly all HW's in the world, sad to see, but true.

Even though Lewis knocked Tyson out in the fight, I sensed Lewis was well cagey and scared in the 1st few rounds. Even tho Tyson could not get inside in 2002, In 1996 Tyson would get inside often. Lewis was an different fight in 1996 to 2002 and would of liked to of traded in 1996. Would that of been in Tysons favour. Who knows? We all got are own opinion. I reckon Tyson would have his moments for sure in 1996.

No, I argue with those who are acting like I am lying about something. When someone said that they felt Lewis would win, I then asked them how they felt that would effect the landscape of the heavyweight division throughout the second half of the 90's. Good try though. You guys are ****in' anal. I never said that Lewis was scared, and I never said that he ducked Tyson. What I said was that he declined 13.5 mill to fight him, and took 4 mill in step aside cash instead. It's the truth for ****'s sake. Deal with it.

I am SURE that Lewis was not scared of Mike Tyson
. However, I do feel that this was a mistake on Lewis' part not to take the fight when it was offered.

Get your head out of your ass and get back on topic.

How do you then see a showdown in 1996 between Lewis and Holyfield, and the second half of the 90's? Maybe a 12 round rematch against Mercer? Possibly he could get Bowe motivated for a showdown? As I said before, I would have loved to see how Lewis handled fighting a southpaw, such as Moorer as well.

Lewis gets KO'd early here. He would be considered lucky if he saw the 5th round. Lewis had a tough fight with Mercer that I scored a draw. Tyson is much better than Mercer and Lewis would be the same if not much better than the one in the Mercer fight. Tyson by KO in round 3.

I'd favour Lewis against any version of Tyson but Lewis beats '96 Tyson in much the same fashion Holyfield did. He would get picked apart by the jab in the first 4 or 5 rounds and once he tired Lewis would start with the big power shots until Iron Mike goes down.

not sure who wins BUT 96 Tyson was light miles better than what Lewis fought, this cannot be denied.

Lewis wins. Tysons handlers fought Holyfield simply because they thought it was a far better value for money deal.

They though Tyson would beat Holy easy, who was thought to be shot by then.

People can say all they want about Lewis just losing to McCall, just beating Bruno and going 12 with Mercer.

    But you know what?

Tyson had fought EIGHT rounds in FIVE YEARS before the Holy fight. That includes the farces against McNeeley and Mathis, and the dive by Seldon.

You tell me which guy would be the best prepared out of Lewis and Tyson?

Besides "Holy having his number", one of the main reasons IMO Holy beat Tyson, was HOly had been fighting constantly during that time. Tyson hadn't had a hard fight since Ruddock in June 91 - FIVE AND A HALF YEARS EARLIER!!!!

I don't care who you are. You don't fight Holy or Lewis after not having any competition for five and a half years. You're going to get smashed whichever of those guys you get in the ring with.

Thanks for proving to everyone on this board once again that you know nothing.

There really is no argument here to be honest, even though Lewis was the mandatory the biggest fight out there was Tyson V Holyfield. Lewis took the step aside money because he got to fight the winner, providing it was Tyson - which is what everyone was expecting. It didn't happen and then Holyfield ducked Lewis until 1999. Lewis could have forced Tyson to fight him through the courts, of course but why should he? He had the option of beating Tyson for $13.5 million and then facing Holyfield for a similar amount or letting them fight each other and only having to beat the winner and in the meantime pocket $4 million for the privilege of doing absolutely nothing.

My personal opinion is that Tyson of 1986-1989 would have had a damn good chance of beating prime Lewis and would have beaten any version of Holyfield. Irrelevent here though, 1996 Tyson gets owned by Lewis, as does any version of Holyfield that ever stepped into the ring.
