We've discussed the hell out of their actual 2003 match. Now let's try something different. How about a six year younger version of The Lion who was active fighting, more youthful, in better condition, hungrier and in the midst of turning top rated big men into jelly? This thread will no doubt get mixed opinions but I'll offer you mine.. 1997 Lennox creams the livin' cr*p out of any version of Doc Iron Fist.. :smoke
ANTICIPATED RESPONSE FROM THE FORUM - " Very reasonable post Mr. Magoo!!! common sense should clearly dictate that if a 37 year old, 256 lbs, off for one year Lewis can overcome Vitali that a better more youthful version should do that and more !!!"
If anything, I see Lewis play it safe and outbox Vitali. Hell, the Lewis of the Tyson fight would do a job on Vitali.
Age was NEVER the factor in any of Lennoxs fight,it was preparation, the age excuse is run into the ground he was good at younger age he was even better at older age,he was in the middle throughout his career...its all preparation not age or years he fought ,I would maybe sklighlty put him over Vitali ,but I don't see him winning against a prepared Vitali either. What about post 2003 vitali who started becoming more seasoned himself? I give lennox the nod here, but not against the better prepared Vitali.
A competitive fight, i think Lenni can take it. But it can also be 50-50 as Vitali had a solid chin. But the odds are on Lewis to win. My only issue with Lenni is his cowardly post fight interview and the way he ran away from a rematch from finally that one high quality opponent who didn't happen to be shot for once.
Lewis wins, the only thing up for debate is how, by early TKO, by mid-late TKO, or by points. I'm going with mid-late TKO.
You might not be the best person to discuss math concepts with. You really can't say it's a 50-50% and then say the odds are on Lewis to win. These are contradictory statements.
I think Vitali could do it. Old Lewis' main problem was that he had NO gas tank in their actual fight. But here's the thing - he was getting creamed by Klitschko in the early rounds when one would objectively imagine that he would do better. He only really got back into it when the eye damage became a factor. So, yeah, I'll toss my 2c into the Vitali hat.
I don't think Lewis would have ever had an easy time with Vitali. He was out boxed by Vitali which something he wasn't used to, he found the jab and size of Vitali an issue, I think even a prime Lewis would be forced to take Vitali into the trenches. But prime Lewis would of course had an easier time. He was faster, in better shape and a more focused fighter than the older version Vitali fought. Vitali also simply didn't have the inside game to match Lewis and while he was able to hurt Lewis he didn't have the single shot power to take him out like McCall and Rahman. Lewis would likely lose the early rounds but quickly adapt and jump on Vitali then grind him down and stops him in the middle rounds.
Not sure why are you saying TKO, Vitali in comparison to his brother has a much better chin and i doubt he has ever been tkod before. He might still get a beating and a messy face but i doubt he will be tkod.
Lewis should win, but Vitali should do better than Mavrovic. I'd expect more boxing and less brawling. Vitali still has a good chance.
In case you hadn't noticed, he tended to get cut when hit by Lewis. People need to realize he wasn't just cut once in that fight, he was cut three times. Also if you want the last 20 seconds of round 6, Vitali looked hurt by the over hand right Lewis hit in with, and Vitali proceeded to grab onto him like an octopus for the remainder of the round. You can see Lewis trying to create space so he could finish the job off. So a TKO is not out of the question, especially considering Lewis' timing was off during the first 2 rounds of the fight and he never was able to establish that overhand right of his. A less rusty Lewis may have caught him a couple of more times with that right.
