1997 Lennox Lewis vs 2003 Vitali Klitschko

This is weird.

Anyway, as stated, a younger, hungrier and overall better Lewis ought to take care of business in a more emphatic manner.

I think Vitali's prime was later than 2003, but here's how I see the fight.

Lewis was in fact KO'd twice early by punchers who can use the right hand in McCall and Rhaman. Vitali is a better fighter than either and also has a good right hand. Lewis fought few punchers with skill. Sure he and easily beat Tua, and Morrison, However he was KO’d by one punch by Rhaman and McCall. The " lottery " punch rang twice for Lewis, and Vitali is better than all four of these punchers who meet Lewis.

Lewis had issues with good jabbers in Mercer, and Bruno. Vitali fits. He has a good jab. In fact he easily out jabbed Lennox in 2003.

A past his prime Holyfield had a close fight with Lewis in 1999 that was rulled a draw. I thought Lennox won 7-5.

Lewis was not known for late round TKO's. Tyson was stopped in the 8th( Tyson was very gassed, that's why ) , but did Lewis stop anyone in rounds 9-12? Not that I see, which means his power or stamina wasn't great late in fights. Could Lewis chin hold up for many rounds vs Vitali who proved he could take Lewis’ best hook and uppercut?

Vitali is the better boxer. He was never behind in any fight. None of his score cards were close. Lewis pulled a rabbit out of his hat and was in some trouble vs. Bruno.

Vitali throws more punches. He's got the better chin. According to box rec the fighter who throws more punches wins something like 80% of the time or more if there is no stoppage.

The cut is the ONLY reason Lewis won. Cuts like that are flukes and happen maybe once in 100 boxing matches. It was Vitali's first cut in all of his amateur and pro boxing matches. In what other fight was Vitali badly cut as a pro? Zero.

That's because Vitali made Lewis look bad. Every think of that? Lewis said he was in fine shape and could be around for a while longer prior to this fight.

Yet he was out punched, out jabbed, and swung and missed. Hurt, and marked up. And very tired after round 6.

Lewis used to say he'd never fought anyone like me in the third person. Okay, true, but when he fought Vitali he was giving up height and HBO arm measurements had Lewis at 29", Vitali at 29.5"

So Lewis never fought anyone like Vitali Klitschko.

Later Lewis admitted Vitali was real tough to hit.

If Kirk Johnson was in there, and Lewis won in 4, NO ONE says Lewis is shot. In addition one of Lewis' best performances ever was vs Rhaman at age 35. Lewis was 37 for Vitali. Lewis was a very good older fighter.

 

Unless your are calling a cut stoppage which at least 30 to 1 in heavyweight title fights, yes. Who says that is the worst Lewis? It is not. You're a hater so I'll stop here.

but I see the kliturd point of view - its lewis fault because he was punching vitali, you see. If lewis hadn't punched vitali, then vitali would have won the fight. Kliturd self destructs once again.

 

The floor level to beat Lewis is Rahman and McCall.

But I'm not picking Vitali because he's a puncher only. I think Vitali has the better jab, the better chin ( BY A MILE ) , better stamina, is harder to hit, and punches as hard as either Rhaman or McCall.
