1997 Roy Jones easily beats any version of Rocky the BUM Marciano

So you're gonna sit here, with a straight face, and tell I have to dig up sources to prove to you that men who enter the ring in the mid-high 180s fight at 175. Do you know what sport this is, old-timer?

Why don't you dig up some sources to prove that Jones exclusively fought small light heavies who entered the ring below 180?

    Yes.

I am not saying that it is not true, but I want some evidence for it.

Watch how relentless Marciano was against Moore and how many punches he threw per round. Jones would get his ass tore up in this fight. Im not a huge Marciano fan myself and I think hes overrated by some but the knocks I have against him wouldnt matter here. If Jones was scared to face a dime store version of Marciano in Darius then he isnt making it out of the ring alive against Rocky. I smell a brutal KO here and I think it would be much easier for Marciano than most would imagine. Hed walk through whatever Jones sent his way and every time Jones threw a punch Rocky would be on top of that opening raining blows. He would know he isnt faster but he would trudge forward bulling Jones around until he trapped him where he wanted him and then Jones would go into his shell on the ropes or in a corner and thats where Marciano would pound his ass into smithereens. Remember how Jones kept hitting Hardings bicep until he injured it despite Harding having a pretty competetive fight with Jones? Well, Marciano perfected this tactic and when Jones woke up from his coma six days later hed find his body covered in bruises from his hips to the top of his head.

Say what you will about Moores age in 1955 but he was still a better fighter than Jones ever was at that point and Marciano beat him like he was his daddy. Moore had one thing to fall back on in that fight: Power. He could hit a lot harder than Jones could and when he dropped Marciano in the first it was merely a wakeup call.

I've attacked Marciano deluded maniacs since day one. And I think Roy Jones was a once a generation talent.

That said, there isn't a single fighter I would bet on against Rocky under 190… and probably under 200. Not saying it couldn't be done but probability would not be in the opponent's favor.

And you do realize that roy was practically 50-0. Even you cannot consider his first loss to be legitimate. On top of that, he was fighting much better opponents in hopkins toney griffin Mccallum Gonzalez etc.

7 fights against 40 yr old washed up men and bums like la starza is not impressive. The other 42 were also bums like Ted Lowry.

And number 1 contenders? So what? How many times have we seen stupid rankings? The number 1 contender in the second or third weakest HW era is far from impressive - Espexially when they have over a dozen losses and are washed up and past their prime. The worst part is marciano came close to losing several times. How you win is also important in addition to who you win against

Do you seriously think Ali's resume isn't 100000x better than marciano just because he had a few Ls? Look at the guys he was fighting - in their prime - compared to marcianos old geezers

Holmes resume crushes him. Tyson had 9 defenses to marcianos 6. The bum is far from great

Try putting your numbers in context instead of being a blind sheep following the herd

Now explain how he needed a miracle to survive a 38 yr old washed up man in the last 2 fights of his career, and losing 2-3 of his last 4 fights

On top of barely winning a decision over a washed up Charles 2-2 in his last 4, and nearly getting stopped by him

And getting knocked down against a 39 yr old archie moore who 3 months earlier was a light heavy with 19 losses

The BUM Marciano struggled against a bunch of washed up old men, all of them light heaves like roy, and none of them close to their prime like 97 jones.

None of them nearly as fast or elusive, just as good counterpunchers. The BUM Marciano will get a repeat of the first Walcott fight, but this time the blind squirrel marciano won't stumble upon an acorn.

...Problem for Jones here is that I don't think he can impress Rocky with his power shots. They will land, but basically bounce off that hard head.

Yes, Rocky was dropped twice, both flash knockdowns. I do think the Moore right hand stunned him...he looked slightly stiff-legged for a second when he got up.
In any event, Moore was a true all-time great puncher and Walcott's hook was a great punch.
I just don't think Jones is going to hurt Marciano. Surprise him yes, with that speed. But genuinely be able to put hurt on him?
    I don't see it.

That said, I think Jones is going to have a long night trying to keep Marciano off him. He had beautiful counter punches and excellent feet, but I just don't think that that will be enough, once Marciano starts warming to the task.

It was not unsurprising to see an opponent get the better of Marciano early...Walcott, Charles and LaStarza all outboxed Marciano early on. Fifteen rounds with a relentless swarmer whom you can't hurt and who can knock your block off is a long, long time.

I admire Jones' ability, but for me this is a big, big ask. Marciano isn't going to play nice...he'll throw low blows, late shots, elbows, the works. The man was an animal in the ring I as much as I respect Jones' ability, he is not the man to tame this beast.

I don't like to get into " who beats who" threads , BUT to say that a Roy Jones at his best a 168 pound fighter, beats a force of nature as was Rocky Marciano, is ludicrous. Roy Jones could never absorb the hundreds of savage blows that Marciano reigned on the head, shoulders, neck, forearms, upper chest etc, and remain upright. NEVER, whilst
Rocky could absorb any shot that the 168 Roy Jones might land on him. And take it from me sir, Roy Jones would have never remained upright for long. And to the neophyte to
say that a small LH Roy Jones could whip a clever 195 puncher as Jersey Joe Walcott,
    smacks of delusion...Alice in Wonderland...

All of Rockys best opponents fought their best at 175 and were completely washed up when they fought him, and several times marciano very nearly lost

It is not a stretch to think jones would do a repeat of the first 12 rds of the Walcott fight

Or they were the heavyweight champion or just months away from being such or months for challenging for said title again…

This statement is far more correct than yours. FACT.

Leon spinks was hw champ too

    What's your point?

Everything I wrote was irrefutable about marcianos competition.
