Okay i was looking through some old magazines in a box and this is one of the first ones i pulled up. KO magazine does 50 fantasy matchups but i only do 5 for right now tell me what you guys think. Holyfield w15 Tunney says the bigger and stronger,Holy would assume command from the start and never relinquish it. It would take all of Tunneys speed and endurance to last the distance, which he would do while losing a lopsided decision. Moore ko 11 Foster ko says Bob would land his bombs early and probably drop Moore more than once, but by the 5th Moore would start figuring Bob out getting inside, smothering, working the body, finally he would wear Bob out and stop him in 11. Whittaker w15 Basilio Basillio roars after him but whittaker would keep him off balance and spinning around and frustrating Carmen. Whittaker would land just enough to win a unpopular but just win. Delahoya Late Tko Napoloes they feel Napoloes would school him early, but in the mid rounds one of ODLHs hooks rips open Napoloes and open up to stop Napoloes late. Canzoneri w 15 Arguello They feel Canzoneri would win a narrow unanamous decision,Arguello would score his vaunted hooks and straight rights occasionly but would have trouble stringing combos together. Canzoneri is durable enough to last. Mcgover tko 11 Chacon says that Mcgovern didnt punch like Olivares but hed hit hard enough to cut Chacon and stop him after 11 thriling wars.
I agree. DLH was great but not in this class. Out of 10 fights he would get the cut-stoppage perhaps once. Yes he would. Foster´s chin is dentable and if a lhw is able to do so, it´s Moore.
Ko is full of ****. Their editors only pick winners based on who they like or who is hot at the moment and at the time Oscar was hot never having lost. They used to say the same about Donald Curry until he lost. Curry was ready to conquer all worlds at the time but two losses and never again did his name come up. that's how they are at KO, they dont care about their credibility becuz their target market has always been general sports fans, not knowledgable boxing fans
I liked some of the features but overall the magazine was marred by the bias coming form their yuppy editors with the exception of the old timer Thornton, King, and Hoffer, their QUALITY writers. The bias there was just as bad as what you'd find in SI. The last RING i saw that got my interest was the end-of-decade issue (1979) that featured Ali along with an interview of James Scott and his assessement of the top light heeavyweights. Other than that RING was overrated, and their worldwide results. Nobody actually sits there all day reading over all that small print.
I did You missed a lot of good stuff if you stopped reading in 79. Over those years adding up all there issues ive learned alot from that magazine. This was way before the Internet existed. I dont read them as much anymore but on the rare occasion i see one at the store ill grab one. They have some very informative and good stuff in there. Even though i dont get around to the boxing magazines anymore, reading one of their articles beats reading off the lap top or PC.
