peak Larry Holmes 1993 Holyfield peak post exile Ali Lewis looked beatable that night. Looked like you could move in and out of range and outscore him, outjab him at times could the men above actually pull it off? Bonus round: some more mobile boxers 2020 or 2015 Tyson Fury 1987 Tony Tucker Tokyo Douglas
A lot of people thought the rematch was closer and Holyfield might have actually deserved a draw that time. Not seen it yet though.
A draw is a stretch, 7-5 or 8-4 for Lewis is fine. Holyfield had these big moments with not much in between (if he had been a couple years younger i feel he would have been bouncing moving and jabbing more between his attacks).
I'd give Holmes and peak Holy slight edge against Lewis from Holy 2nd fight. I'd favor Ali from 73-74 to win against Lennox too. But no later than 74 version of Ali Fury - hard to pick, would be competitive and boring fight. Tucker - Lewis wins on points Douglas from Tyson fight - that's a hard one.
1) Holmes by late TKO in 15-rounds fight or competitive but clear UD in 12-rounds fight 2) Holyfield by close decision, probably a SD or MD 3) Ali by late TKO 4) Won't be surprised by any outcome 5) Lewis by UD 6) Douglas had excellent jab and Lewis always had problems with jabbers. But it still not enough for me to favor even that version of Douglas vs Lewis. 8th round stoppage for Lennox to me
The thing with Holyfield is that people assume a younger Holyfield would do better vs Lewis but it's not quite as clear cut that IMO. Holyfield actually became a smarter fighter and had his best performances in the late 90s vs Tyson, Moorer 2, Lewis 2, etc. I think people forget how beatable a younger Holyfield was vs Cooper, Dokes, Holmes, etc. And how he often got lured into slugfests which wouldn't be to his advantage vs Lewis who hits harder than Bowe. Obviously Holyfield was a bit fresher and had more workrate in early 90s, but I'm not sure his gung ho approach and being lighter aswell would make him anymore successful vs Lewis honestly.
They scored it the opposite from the first match. In the first one it was scored as a draw which was a sham. Lewis beat the breaks off Holyfield. The second fight went to Lewis, but Holyfield was able to match him so it should've been a draw. I never understood this, but overall no harm was done because their matches still ended with 1 draw and 1 victory/defeat.
He loses to Ali and Holmes over 15. The Holyfield decision would be close cos of the 12 round distance, that could go either way but I’d expect EH to hustle him.
I'm not sure about Holmes or Ali but I think he beats 93 Holyfield. I never really understood why people always think because old Holy gave him a fairly close fight that young Holy beats him. Lewis was the better heavyweight imo.
Fantasy match ups but Ali and Holmes fought plenty of 15 round fights as well as both having great recuperation ability, both prime for prime in there day beat Lewis. As for Evan Fields I don’t think any version of him beats Lewis. Despite Bowe binning the WBC belt a fight between him and Lewis would have been a very interesting fight, prime Bowe is a handful for anybody in any era just like Lewis .
Thats why i chose 93 Holyfield. We can go with 96 Holyfield as well. Still alot smarter than young holy but higher activity
