King's promotions will stage a fight event with "highly-regarded" heavy weight prospect Travis Kauffman(16-0) as the main event of the evening on may the 30th. The first 500 tickets are "Buy one, Get one Free!" Had a good laugh when reading that you will get a ticket for free if you buy one of the first 500 ones.Sounds like a cheap offer from a supermarket. Pro boxing must be really dead over there in the statesatsch Whats next? The first 100 fight fans who watch Eddy Chambers will get a free weekend in New York Or the first 50 fight fans who buy a ticket to watch Chazz Witherspoon will be able to collect a check of 50 bucks:hey Really amazing!!!!!! It's not that unheard of. Specifically when it comes to Don King and when it comes to headlining with an unknown HW prospect in his 17th fight. I know what you're trying to do to but really it's not that funny.
Oh,it is funny, really funny.I ve never heard something like this before. I ve seen fight cards in quite a few different countries, but I ve never seen something like this before.
It's quite common in the city. In fact I saw David Tua, Joe "Mean' Green and Peter Quillin with about 5 friends at a 50% clip. Don King uses this frequently to ensure that the place is filled up.
Have never been to the states and never attended a fight show there. Sounds weird to my poor ears to give away hundreds of tickets for free just to fill up an arena. Doesnt this kind of practice damage a fighter's reputation beyond repair in the usa??
This won't make news over there. If Kauffman KO's the guy its going to look great with the place packed out with people rather than an empty place. Haye sold tickets cheaper at the door for the Barret fight i think as well to get more people in
Its quite common from what ive heard in the US.The last thing their promotors want whether it be a fight event or music concert is half filled arenas and sparse crowds. They usually give away complimentary tickets mainly to bigwigs like the local media in exchange for positive write ups, potential sponsors and other business people.
they had the same deal for the nate campbell - ali funeka card.... it worked out pretty good.... my friend convinced a lady at the ticket office to give him a free ticket
It looks good for TV. IF the arena looks completely full, casual fans see that and go "Wow this guy must be really good they sold out -such and such-" It also adds to the atmosphere, as more people give off the implication that it's a bigger fight. The idea is to promote something as BIGGER than a boxing event, hence the more people they can get into the arenas the better it looks/feels. Compare to HBO's solution for low ticket sales, dimming the arenas so that you can't see past the 2nd row.
Have never thought about this before, arriba! I always thought that the goal of any promoter is to make as much money as possible-selling his own soul to the devil in case he is short of money. Hm! Good point! A full arena looks better than an empty one.I guess only a big promoter with tv money can afford to give away hundreds of tickets for free.
Well 9/10, The tickets that are unaccounted for are given away an hour or two before the event starts. It's basically dead ticket money at that point so if someone is willing to come in and make noise and look like a body for free, most promoters at that point don't care. It's a small hit in the pocket but they can do what they usually do and rip fighters off over the live gate.
