I'm having my first amateur fight on Dec. 2nd....at age 27. I've only been boxing about a year and a half. I need all the advice I can get.

For those of you that remember your first amateur fight, is there anything you know now that you wish you knew then?

During sparring, I fare pretty well against boxers. I'm a boxer myself, I like to counter-punch. I don't do that well against sloppy swarmers. Their punches are erratic and unpredictable and I have no room to slip and counter. Any advice against these types of fighters?

    Thanks in advance.

well 1st off ur gunna be nervous so expect that

make sure ur fully hydrated before the fight

to main tips, keep your hands up, and make sure the tank is empty at the end of the fight

dont leave the ring wishing you could have done more

in terms of the sloppy swarmers, eiter stay infront and try and walk em down wiv jabs and high guard or just out manouver them

dont stand and trade though if that aint ur game

If you see the opening then give him a good shot to get him thinking rather than swinging at you. Keep your hands up and don't get carried away when he hits your gloves and the crowd goes mental.

    1. Train hard, real hard. It's harder than sparring
    2. Stay relaxed, use the jab, don't go crazy

Be relaxed, if you have them hurt.. jump on it. Hydrate... I was so worried about making weight for the next day

be relaxed and KEEP YOUR HANDS UP. thats the number 1 thing i would reccomend to you, please just keep your hands up.

also, throw straight punches. at this level, your opponent will come in throwing bombs trying to knock your head off so make sure you throw 1s and 2s for this fight. thats all you should need at this level. a few hooks here and there will help of course but for this one, being the first, stay focused on the basics.

    KEEP YOUR HANDS UP

    KEEP YOUR HANDS UP

    KEEP YOUR HANDS UP

be patient and dont get reckless. everything we tell you will disappear once you step into the ring however. you will be wearing smaller gloves, the guy across the ring will look bigger and better than you and the speed of the fight is alot faster than any hard sparring you can do.

    stay calm

KEEP YOUR HANDS UP KEEP YOUR HANDS UP KEEP YOUR HANDS UP

    good luck

we all did it ! good luck :thumbsup

most important thing is to stay relaxed, dont blow out your energy and prepare yourself to be in better condition than the other guy! good luck

If you're getting swarmed, BODY SHOTS. He'll stop swarming you.

    I was that sloppy swarmer.

    Run and tire him out.

Come back in the 3rd. It's the only round that really seems to matter anyways.

Remember to 'Box', and use the skills you've learned. Stay cool, calm, and collected. If your opponent attempts to swarm or brawl with you, then make him pay. So yeah, don't brawl! In the 3rd round empty the tank!

Since kidney shots are illegal it would probably make it a pretty bad idea in hostile territory. I'm pretty sure if I'd done that in my first one I would have been on the wrong end of a blade haha.
