Thanks for the tips. So basically... keep my hands up, pace myself, and throw straight punches.

I had my first fight (all be it kickboxing not boxing) last Sunday and seriously, 90% of what you have learnt will go out your head and instinct will take over.

Before you get in make sure you're fully hydrated and properly fired up, hti your face a lot, mash your nose e.t.c, don't go in getting stunned first time your hit..

When you're in,s eriously, keep your hands up. Don't give the judges any reason to give it to the other guy so stay busy, if he comes in swinging, which at this level chances are he will, let him. Let him gas, just make sure they're not scoring punches, time it - get in , land yours and get out, leading with the jab to get inside.

If he's more stand offish, again, keep your hands up and feel your way in, remember to stay outside his jab and try and use angles to get inside, open up, and get out.
Control the fight, pace, tempo e.t.c, don't let him do it. Keep you hands up, and leave everything in there. Do NOT give the judges any reason to give it to him.

When it's all over, win or lose, don't regret anything you did in there, and don't give yourself any reason to wish you could have done more. The very fact you're stepping inside the ropes makes you a winner anyway.

I had my first fight in September, everything went out the window and I started to brawl and the other guy who had 30+ amateur fights picked me off for fun.

I was a bag of nerves, I froze and everything I learned went out the window, I felt I let me, my trainer and my paying friends down.

I learned so much of what to do and what not to do.

I was a lot fitter and stronger which helped me brawl for 3 rounds. 2 minutes is a long time and even longer if you go all out from the first bell.

    Good Luck
