Dont be frustrated. In time, you will learn how to correct the mistakes you have been doing. Also, this is a test of your mental toughness. Either you quit or go back.

That's normal on your first day. You'll find that nearly everyone who hasn't done a combat sport doesn't really know how to punch at all. As for footwork, there are people who think they've been boxing for years and they still don't have proper footwork.

In fact, if your trainer told you your hand positions and footwork were fine, then I would have advised you to leave your gym and go somewhere else.

I am working my ass 7 years and my trainer still wants me to improve.
The bigger enemy of being good at something is that you can be better!

Look, you all need to understand something about trainers, they are just human beings with their own ideas of how things should be done

A trainer especially if he does not know you usually trys to mold you into what he thinks you should be

most fighters down fault is the trainer, he tells you no no no, you are doing this and that wrong! but think about it no 2 people have the same stride when walking, so this applys to boxing also

now I am not saying dont listen to your trainer, but dont get discouraged because this guy says you are doing it wrong

A good trainer will analyze you and see what you can and cannot do, he then will attempt to mold you ocording to you and not what he thinks you should be

    Scenario:

newbie joins a gym, his first day trainer says let me see you shadow box, or let me see you step and jab, soon after he says noo you are stepping wrong or you are doing this wrong,

but what if to you and your body and the way your system works it'd done correctly and you are more effective your way?

the trainer now makes you do the task his way so you spend all your time trying to do what he says is the right way, against your bodys natural way of doing the thing, this discourages you and you might even feel "well I guesss boxing is too hard and not for me"

Dont get me wrong here peeps one must listen and trust your trainer, but at the same time you and he must know and realize your abilities and work with that instead of trying to make you something you are not

I say this from my own experience as a boxer and now trainer, I analyze the boxer and start the molding process based on his attributes and capabilities, Iinstead of starting off with the same old no no wrong way attitude

Also if you have come with experience on the heavy bag or your own training youve probably picked up bad habbits. Hes probably trying to get it into your head that you dont know what your doing and start building you up from scratch as a fighter. Like i spent a few weeks in a gym, and i had to leave to go traveling , when i get back i expect to be at square 1 or worse as iv kept training on my own. I know my footwork is diabolical for a start. Iv considered not bothering using the heavy bag while away from the gym but its just too much darn fun and a good work out. But dont be put off keep it up:good

The only good thing about "garage training" like we have is yes we may have to learn the skills all over again , but lots of the people in the gym i went to know how to box better than me but are still soooo unfit. Like we were practicing in my second week jabbing and catching with a partner. And 5 or 6 times he had to have a break and put his hands down , i asked how long you been going expecting him to say hes new like me and he said 4 months lol:yep Felt like saying **** man do some road work.
