Chavez is a genuine modern great but my pick is Packey,he fought as good if not better opposition, including wins over Jack Britton ,Jimmy Britt, and Freddie Welsh,he was a great boxer, good enough to draw with Mike Gibbons in his last fight ,he was durable and could hit he beats the Mexican, imo.

It´s not that I couldn´t see McFarland winning against Chavez. It´s a tough one. But the way I described it would be the the most likely outcome for me...
I don´t think you can really compare going 25/20 rounds with Welsh to going 15 with Chavez. Absolutely no disrespect to Welsh. I just think their styles don´t compare at all. I obviously haven´t seen their fights, but Welsh probably didn´t go to the body the way Chavez would. Welsh also doesn´t have the power of Chavez. Especially on the inside McFarland would have his hands full with Chavez, so that´s why I think it would go the way I desribed it.
You might also be reffering to going 20 rounds with Harlem Tommy Murphy (a draw), who was a big hitter, but, with all respect, isn´t near the skill level of Chavez.
