Judges do have to follow the referee on knockdowns/deductions, whether they agree or not. Williams vs Martinez I, after the knockdown of Martinez "Martinez is fighting to make this a 10-9 round." The judge thought Hopkins won the first besides the knockdown.
Well, it could have been a mistake, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. I believe you could correctly score a 10-9.
My guess is that he felt strongly that it wasn't a knockdown and figured what the hell, it's not like Pascal was dominating the round anyway....because most anybody would say Pascal was taking round 1. If he was going by better work in the round, he would have scored the 3rd 10-9 as well, because Hopkins was clearly winning that round up until the knockdown happened near the end. Either way, I support his scoring of the 1st, regardless of his motive. 10-9 was the correct score for that round. Viva la resistance
Judges don't have to automatically have to deduct a point for a KD. It's still subjective. A KD is just a clear indicator of whether or not a fighter landed with a good punch. There's no obligation to score KDs, official or not.
Hasn't thread stealer already put this to bed? The judge did not score 10-9 to Hopkins he felt hopkins won the round after the knockdown so scored it 10-9 to pascal
I maintain that the thread was started to complain about the judge scoring it 10-9 Pascal instead of 10-8, which the TS views as a gift to Hopkins. Here's the original post: So either he's angry it was scored 10-9 for Pascal, or he thinks it should have been scored 10-9 for Pascal. Either way, we should sit back and enjoy his stupidity.
Is it just me, or does the 9 that the judge Van Der Wiele wrote down for the first round look like it's been changed from an 8
It does. There was some controversy as people were claiming that the scorecards were changed with white-out. Even the "1" on very right looks like it's been changed from a 2. That wouldn't have changed the outcome though. Hopkins would've lost on that card 114-113, and it would've still been a draw, just not a majority draw.
Judges can do that. They rarely do it but they have the right not to score a KD if they think it wasn't a legit one.
Always interesting to see that even with a close score, judges still see the same rounds differently. We should take that as a lesson and calm down. Judging is not an exact science.
I tried to change the title when I noticed it was confusing, but I could'nt somehow. I meant that the judge only score a 10-9 advantaging Hopkins when there was a KD during a fairly equal round (although Bhop had the edge). It is funny that it was the only judge that give that score while afterall he is accused of being corrupt...
paquette the canadian obviously changed his 1st round score of 9 to an 8 look how he rounded it out...use your ****ing eyes. alot of everyones **** is ****ing changed ... the american judge as well..giving the fight to hopkins knowing by 1 point and knowing the two draws would give the majority draw and pascal keeping his belt.. I hope "van der ****head" enjoyed his nice flight from belgium and the hotel and lobster keep the *******s from any contact with eachother whatsoever while judging a fight. *some honest scoring in the 3rd round.
