Against eachother or against Lennox Lewis. As it stands there is nothing left for them to prove against the current crop of heavyweights. They've proven that they are head & shoulders above the contenders (both size-wise and talent-wise). Vitali just did to Arreola what Mayweather did to Marquez, actually it might have been an ever greater mis-match. Wlad has too much focus to get caught by a lucky punch like LL did against Rahman, plus he already learned that lesson against Sanders and Brewster. I think the HW division would be more exciting and competetive if they retire.
The winner of Haye-Valuev should get the next shot at Vitali. Wlad will be tied up with the rather uninspiring Eddie Chambers and Alex Povetkin for 2010.
I would be more excited to see competetive fights than the non-competetive ones we've been seeing when anyone gets in the ring with Wlad or Vitali. He has the size, but Wlad/Vitali vs Valuev would not be a competetive fight. People complain about Wlad being boring to watch when he wins fights with just his jab basically, but the reason he does that is because he can. The other fighters aren't competetive enough with him to force him into doing something else. Wlad/Vitali vs Haye would only be exciting because Haye pissed them off enough that they'd open up a bit to take him out painfully. I'd be cheering for Haye, but I don't realistically expect him to beat either of them.
Alberta, I kinda see what you're saying, but I don't agree. The division would be far less exciting without the Klitschkos. The reason for this, in my opinion, it that there is no one out there right now that I can see holding the belt for more than a fight or two. Really, who could hold onto the belt for 7 defenses like Wlad, or even 3 like Vitali...without, of course, being a protected fighter like Valuev. Haye, for instance, might provide some exciting fights, but he'll be kayoed as soon as he takes on a live body. Chambers or Povetkin might give something, but neither of them has the punching power to do that much. Arreola? Like Haye, he is sloppy and really doesn't have the discipline to stay on top for more than a defense or two.
1) lewis is like 46 now....and retired for over 5 years and in the hall of fame... 2) even if the klits retire, how does that make the division better? you would just have shitty fighters fighting each other rather than them
Here was me thinking we already saw Vitali against an old Lewis. What would be proved by him facing an ancient long-retired Lewis?
Like those HW "titlefights" we have seen in the interims without Klit participation you mean... Like Toney - Rahman? Or Valuev - Ruiz? What about Briggs - Ibgragimov? Taking away the best boxers of a division doesn't make the remaining fights any better. Garbage remains garbage.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that with the 2 Headed Klitschko monster atop the division laying waste to all challengers, there potentially could be some exciting matches made between the current crop of B level (when compared to the Klitschko's) fighters. Haye, Chambers, Arreola, Johnson, Povetkin; between those guys you can make some potentially competetive/exciting matches. Sure they aren't as good as Wlad/Vitali, but against eachother and out of the shadow of comparison, those fights would be good. In my opinion of course
